Hey guys, hope everyone's been well.
So we have an eclipse coming up and I was hoping someone could assist me with magic timing during it.
General rule is; no magic when the moon is VOC. Well, the moon is pretty much VOC as soon as the eclipse happens.
So hence my confusion. Lots of people conduct magic and various other types of rituals during the eclipse, but when?
Is it best to do it before the eclipse, right when it's happening, or after the eclipse --- but when the moon is back on course.
Thoughts and views all appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Question about magic timing during eclipse
There will be a solar eclipse Sept 1, 2016 and then a lunar eclipse Sept 16, 2016. Check NASAs site to for viewing area.
In a solar eclipse the moon is between earth and sun, thus casting the Moon's shadow on earth. The life giving light of the sun is blocked, and day briefly becomes night. Very liminal and unpredictable.
And during a lunar eclipse the earth is between moon and sun, casting the Earth's shadow onto the moon, so that the moon appears to run thru a month of phases in an hour if it's a full eclipse. That is pretty darned fast, intensifying the energies of each phase. Again, chaotic results could occur.
When is haste and extreme force an asset?
Full moon magic for optimal power, is best done the day before actual full-phase is reached. I honestly don't know if the same would apply to an eclipse. I've never tried it.

Re: Question about magic timing during eclipse
We've used it as a shadow work moon. Going within, then coming out on the other side with a layer of the onion peeled away hopefully feeling a little fresher and more enlightened.
I haven't ever had a really bad thing happen during an eclipse. Though some funky energy can happen.

Ok, but did you do it right at the eclipse, or before or while VOC?We've used it as a shadow work moon. Going within, then coming out on the other side with a layer of the onion peeled away hopefully feeling a little fresher and more enlightened.

Well some eclipses are longer than others, and I don't recall every one of them being VoC.
Generally walking in contemplating the layer to peel, sometimes before the eclipse has started sometimes after, then set up sacred space, meditating until the moon is coming back into light, proceed with rest of ritual.
And like I said general wonkyness can occur but it hasn't ever been anything that couldn't be amended relatively soonly within the rite.
