Wicca and Dying Hair

I've just recently dyed my hair for the first time ever and since that time, I felt very guilty about doing that if I wanna be a Wiccan. I feel like it's wrong to do because Wicca is all about naturality. I might be completely wrong about this, but it's just how I feel.

Hurt no one but, do as you will. You don't feel guilty about washing your hair. That oil and dirt got there naturally. Your going to wash it out, and with soap that's not very natural. It has what ever inclusions to give it a nice smell. It has additives to make it good for your hair. You wouldn't think twice about washing your hair. Do you ever wear make-up? Use any kind of perfume or other scent? Clothes aren't natural. You weren't born with them. Living in a house, a cave, or under a tree, would be natural. I wouldn't think twice about dying your hair. Besides, it looks so good and just the color you wanted. Makes you feel good, after your over any misplaced guilt. The Craft or Wicca never said, "Don't be looking good." I've never seen that any place in the manual.

Absolutely. Coloring her hair brought no harm to herself or anyone else, so by repeating/emphasizing the importance of that portion of your post, it was my hope to help her realize that there is no reason to feel guilty.

Dying your hair can be a fun way of expressing your individuality. Or, in my case, an attempt to save off the grays. Not the the aliens, the hairs.

I wouldn't call myself a wicca, but even if I did I wouldn't stop dying my hair. When I was younger, I didn't like my natural hair color that went from a nice, light blond in my childhood days to some dishwater blond from my 20s on :wink2: , and now it is the grey hair I just don't want to see yet.

So yes, go ahead and dye, if you want to! Can't imagine what should be bad about being and feeling pretty

Wicca is not really all about living naturally. Wicca has elements which are about being in tune with nature, but that in no way means shunning anything that's not "natural." Planewalker hit it on the head there - did you feel guilty about posting on the internet? I mean, it's not really natural, is it? Wicca took inspiration from ancient pagan religions - and the ancient pagans had gods of beauty, cosmetics, perfume, homes, cities, roads, of technology. There were ancient pagans who dyed their hair, wore makeup, cared about fashion, got piercings, got tattoos. If you enjoy having dyed hair, then there's nothing wrong with it.

While I can see where you're coming from, I agree with everyone else dying your hair has nothing to do with Wicca. But if you feel that insecure about your decision to dye your hair, I would suggest consulting with the Lady.

Or as MsMollimizz suggested, you can dye your hair with henna, which is all natural and herbal. It also provides with beautiful colors and strengthens your hair and it looks fabulous.

Siona made some great points about the ancients having gods of almost everything, including beauty and they cared about fashion, so again, there's nothing wrong with feeling pretty and confident, not according to Wicca or any pagan religion.

Funny. I've decided to stop dying my hair because I want it to be natural. And black hair with blonde roots does not look natural. lol!

The shampoo I use is completely natural. You can even use it as Dish/Laundry and household soap. (Which I have in a pinch! )And there are plenty of people that go no-poo (no shampoo). It takes a while for the natural oils to balance but soap actually isn't needed for hair. I use it because I have extremely thick curls and spend a lot of time outside with my dogs. It's a common occurrence to find small twigs in my hair.

I use those too, though I don't wear much make-up. All cruelty free, vegan and all-natural.

Though I agree with planewalker's overall message. My own personal choice to be all natural in those aspects is mine. If you want to dye your hair, go for it!

KattChaos90 made a great suggestion. A lot of commercial hair dye is tested on animals. Especially Loreal, they're the worst. Try an all natural dye. That's definitely guilt free! Look for the bunny on the back of the box. That's how you know.
