Difference between astral beings?

I've seen some posts around referring to spirit guides, familiars, angels (guardian and otherwise), dragons, and more. How do you determine what kind of being you're speaking to, if they're in the astral realm? I looked but I haven't seen any good, conclusive differences between the different types of astral beings and I'm a bit confused. Can anyone help?

I have mostly worked with my spirit guide. He has been part of my OOB dream-scapes since earliest child hood. He jokes around by taking on disguises but his eyes are always the same so I know it's him, and the disguises are to illustrate some point or the theme of the night's adventure. Otherwise I don't linger within the astral unless my guide has taken me to someone for a reason; & for discussions, instruction or in an astral plane lecture hall. I just accept them each at face value bcs that's all I can do. . I Can't prove it. They could be fabrications, aspects of personality, or even bi-located energy forms between dimensions. How would you know? Does it matter? Mostly acceptance comes down to gut feeling & reasoning.
