This is a stupid question but...

Postby [Haley] » Sat Jul 15, 2006 1:06 pm

I know this probably the most retarded question ever posted on here but I gotta know this. Okay I've been watching and reading so many vampire related things lately that it's been bugging the crap out me, I have got to know if there's such thing as vampire at all? And I don't mean the blood drinking, Dracula, Darren Shan, vampires I just mean are there any creatures, beings, or whatever that are known as vampires to any extent? I know most of you are laughing but I just really needed to ask so I could rest my imagination for a while.

I believe that there is a religion of the vampire. I don't know much about it but I knew a person who was into it and on a television show called Mad Mad House they had people from a few different religions living together and one person was a Vampire. They had a Wiccan too. I liked that show...

Yes, there are. I forget what exactly they are, I just know I have read about them before. I wish I could tell you more.

I loved MMH! What ever happened to it? The vampire's name was Don Henrie and the Wiccan's name was Fiona Horne. I've heard that she is a bit of a fluff, but I don't see it. So Don Henrie is a real vampire? What exactly does he do that makes him a vampire? On one of the challengs the contests had to endure was to drink blood, was that for show or does Don really drink blood as well? And apparently you spell it 'vampyre' and not vampire. (I did a quick search on imdb) It says on imdb that the status of this show is shown as being active, could this be false since there hasn't been a second season? I'm getting off topic I know, sorry about that.

*shudder* yes, there's such a thing as 'vampires' / 'vampyres' / 'v4mp1r3s' / 'vymypres' / whatever the latest 'cool' spelling is.

First of all, let's clear up two of the more well-known 'vampire' traits:

- Sensitive to light: This is a medical condition. One of my close friends is very photosensitive, and has very pale skin. It hurts her, sometimes, to go out in bright light. So, yes, some people are sensitive to light.. This is not to say they have a craving for blood, but..

- Blood-drinking: ..This photo-sensitiveness is normally accompanied by anaemia. Lack of iron in the blood, and as such, lack of red blood cells. My friend takes iron pills every day, else she ends up feeling fatigued. However, despite her lack of red blood cells, she doesn't drink blood :). For one thing, the body's not gonna be able to get that iron out of the blood cells when all you're doing is guzzling it down your digestive system.. The cells are rather large, and aren't going to be able to just seep through the walls. If this happened, blood would be leaking out of our veins into our digestive system continually. Yum!

Now we'll talk about 'real-life-vampyres':

- Blood-drinking: Yes, some people do this. They call themselves 'vampires', and drink blood. They'd normally have about a shot of it a day, by taking it from a willing donor who uses a sharp, clean blade to cut themselves and share the blood. They claim it has a lot of 'energy', and they need it to recharge.. In reality, they're probably running a high risk of picking up blood-borne diseases :). Largely, these people have an underlying sexual blood fetish.. Which is probably also the basis of the reason they became a 'vampire'.

Some 'vampire' groups even go as far as to claim that 'vampirism' is some kind of.. genetic trait, which allows them to have super-human strength, agility, etc.. This 'genetic trait' is usually awoken at some point, or the person's genes are mutated by an existing 'natural' vampire who already has the genetic trait. In reality? It's probably all in their heads. Don't you think if there were some way of 'activating' a secret human gene that gives us all super-human abilities, then you'd see a lot more super-human people ?

Anyways.. To answer your question properly, and finally, yes.. There are real-life 'vampires'. These people have pale photo-sensitive skin that hurts when they go out in the sun.. And a lack of red-blood cells, meaning they need to top up their iron levels. There are also, alongside these, several groups of people who like to drink blood for fun, and claim it gives them energy.

(Why I didn't just summarise it like that I don't know.. I guess it is a little late for me to still be awake.. Or should that be early? Haha :P).

I have heard of 2 types of vampires.

One is what Elem explained above, and the other is more of a spirit.

There are some "evil spirits" that are attracted to bad energy. If they sense bad energy they come, stand next to you, and try draining you of that energy so that they can get more power (I'm not really sure why they need more power, but I doubt it's for anything good). People say that that's the reason why you feel tired after you release bad energy, because the "vampires" come and drain you of your energy.

Now I'm not completely sure if the vampires I have just explained really do exist, but I try to ignore giving off bad energy, not just because of the "vampires" but because negative energy itself just isn't good.

I have heard of something called an "energy vampire". Apparently, this is someone who sucks energy from people and their surroundings. Many do this unintentionally for a long time, though they can learn to control it so they don't drain energy from everyone they meet. They have black auras apparently, and this is why it draws energy rather than giving it out like most people's do.
As I said, this is something I read about once, and it might be total bollocks.

I've read about the same. I don't personally believe in it but one of my closest friends swears it really is a genetic disease and you can awaken and blah blah blah. I to think it is just an underlying blood fetish that someone is trying to make an excuse for. It's rather stupid if you ask me, to drink someones blood and claim to be a vampire. If you go to www.slad.net and visit the forums, it's all about Vampirism, the "real" thing. I know a lot about it, and can argue a point in favor of it quite well, but I disagree with it completely.

This is called Psi-Vampirism. Which to me shouldn't be called that as it is simply psi-feeding. I myself did this, as Kirstofski said, unintentionally for years before I realized what I was doing. I would be down and my friends would be hyper. I'd slowly suck all their energy and suddenly I'd be bouncy and they would be ready to pass out. One friend had to learn to naturally block herself from me because I couldn't control myself. Now I have gotten quite good and can keep myself from sucking energy as well as intentionally sucking energy from someone, if they are weak enough. I don't usually do it to people, I prefer to take from nature since I give it back eventually.

Still it does help when you have a sister and nephew who are constantly bouncing off the walls. Cause sometimes, I need quiet time.

Thanks for all of the information everybody! I did a search a few days ago on 'vampyres' and found a site that says just about exactly what all of you said and some others things. It was very imformative. Here's the site: http://www.religioustolerance.org/vampire2.htm
