Candle question

Postby MysticEnchantress » Sun Jul 09, 2006 12:12 pm

My aunt told me that I shouldnt have unburnt candles in my house but she didnt give me a reason why that is... she told me that if I get a candle as a gift or if I buy one I should light the wick and let it burn for a few moments just to burn the wick and melt a bit of wax and then out it... does anyone know about this?

Sounds a little odd to me... if you get a new package of candles are you supposed to burn every one? I can't think of any reason why you would need to do this; maybe it's just your aunt's own personal belief, or a superstition I haven't heard of.

I personally like to use 'virgin' or unburnt candles when I practice, to avoid any non-ritual-specific energies from interfering, so it wouldn't make much sense to burn all of my candles beforehand.

Either way, like most practical aspects of magic, it comes down to what works for you. If you feel like they should be burnt, burn them. If not, don't.

Good luck.

I agree with the previous Post..I have heard that it is best to let candles burn completely down during any Ritual or Spell work that you do or if that it is impossible to let it burn out to snuff it and never blow out the candle..I think the reasons why being that you are "blowing" the energy and is considered disrespectful to the elements and Gods.If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me anyone ..:) I do agree with the previous poster though as it is best to use new candles to prevent any remenant energy from affecting your Spellwork or Ritual..

well, i have never heard that before. Maybe its just how your Aunt does hers, or maybe how she does her spellwork or believes that they need to be lit, after you get them

I was taught to always use a virgin candle as well.

and even with virgin candles, before using them in any spell or ritual to dedicate them to the correct deity or goal.

I am unfamiliar with any old tales about burning new candles, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few out there

Well for rituals deffinetly use vergin candales. But i have always been told when you have a candal you use for the house when you light it let it burn forlike an hour dont just light it change your mind a fue minets later and blow it out, it will mess the wwick and the buring cycle up.
