Only one item on your altar - what would you choose?

Postby Storm » Sun Dec 10, 2006 7:08 pm

I know that many of you will not have an altar; however for those of you that do.... if you could only have one item on it - what would it be and why?

Mine would be a lovely Goddess statue that my mum bought for me many years ago. She is no particular Goddess; she has a round belly, wide hips and arms that reach up to the sky. I would choose her because my path is very Goddess focused, because she was a present from my mother, and because she is so very beautiful.

If I could only have one thing I think that it would have to be my Goddess Gaia statue. Because she already has everything esle I would ever need.

That sums it up perfectly.

This is a hard one for me. I have so many items, all of which I am very attached to. I would have to choose my recently aquired pewter candle holder as it has a vase in the centre, it's a bud vase which means it's lidded, thus enabling me to use it for incense and as a candle holder too. It's a lovely thing, there are two candle holders on either side of the vase and one is higher than the other, so the assymetry is pleasing to the eye. I have an extensive collection of antique brass Hindu items too, so it's a tough decision.

I'm a big fan of asymmetry as well. In fact, sometimes I will ensure that the objects on my altar are not placed in symmetry. I wonder why that is?

A single short, white pillar candle. It helps me to stay focused on the task at hand.

I would have my incense to, as forgottenDuo said, stay focused on the task at hand. Plus, the scent is mesmerizing and calms my thoughts and relaxes my tense muscles during meditation.

My penticle incense burner. I love incense, it helps me focus especially when I've had a hard day, and need to just prey, and meditate. Everything else the goddess could provide. It was also given to me by my boyfriend.

(Althought maybe my burner and incence itself are two different things...oh well)

I would have to choose my Goddess Drawing of Cerridwen, I drew her a few months ago. She is standing upright holding the moon above her head, when looking at it, it makes me feel more connected to her and I have a focus point.
