Tarot question

Postby Daughter of Dreams » Sun Dec 31, 2006 4:41 am

Hi all.

I've got a question.

I've recently aquired a tarot deck and in the book that accompanied it, it says that Wands can be linked to the elements of air or fire and Swords can be either air or fire as well....

I want to know why they are interchangable?

For the other suits I find the pentacle obviously relates to earth, and the cups as water.

But for me I would picture the Swords as fire (energy and power are the association I apply to this suit) and the Wands as air. So is it personal preference or is there actually a specific element associated with the suits. And why?

Any comments or advice?

I'd appreciate

^_^

If you associate swords with fire then that is what you should go with, after all tarot cards are used to project your sub conscious into images therefore your association with each image is the most important thing.

I use the interpretation of Swords as air [cutting, moving through air etc.] and Wands as fire [creation and energy, controlled and wild also] but as Hedgewitch says, its you who is reading so you should go with your own ideas. I also interpret the elemental directions a little differently to most. I see Fire as the East and Air as South, I know most people I talk with use the opposite associations but I do what I know, it works for me. I find your way interesting, can I ask which deck you use, just out of interest?

Those are truly beautiful. I would love to have one of the original limited editions - maybe if I get rich, someday.

I associate the Athame with Air and the Wand with Fire, but it's really up to you

I'm pretty sure that all of the decks I've ever used have been swords/air, wands/fire but I think that if faced with a deck that was the opposite, I'd probably jsut go with the deck. I don't see the four elements as these energies that are associated with particular tools and directions (hell, the directions don't make sense, I live on the east coast of the US. Earth belongs in the west, water belongs in the east, air belongs in the north and fire still belongs in the south...that is, if I were to assign directions to elements, which I've stated I don't.)

so I think I could work with the intended symbolism.

Hehe...thanks guys

Your really helpful. I guess I will go with what Im feeling and if it changes in time, then it changes ^_^

I was just confused cos I had two associations to pick from so I went with my instincts

*shrugs* we'll see what happens when I start to do readings. Im still learning my cards...and boy is that taking a while.....But onward and towards the light ^_^

*Hugs you all* Thanks again
