Trapped in Paralysis Astral Projecting

Postby Saria » Mon Jan 15, 2007 4:47 pm

Well, I'm sure you're all sick of people asking questions about Astral Projections by now but please bear with me. I need help with a very specific PART of it.

The other day, somebody set up this link http://www.astralvoyage.com/projection/index.html Which was a tremendous help. They stressed on putting your body to sleep while keeping your mind awake. The trick in this was to recognize certain stages of your consciousness.

Now I've been falling asleep for years by recognizing these stages, the buzzing sound, the flashes of imagery and random noises. Once I recognized people talking in my head, I knew I was set. Then I heard about meditating on your third eye and waiting for the vibrations so I did that and lo and behold, I was vibrating like crazy. I was surprised how easily I was able to get to that point simply by meditating on that noise in my head and my third eye.

Here's where the problem is:

I was lying in my bed with my body asleep and my mind awake and I was looking through my third eye. However, instead of being able to move astrally, I was trapped in my own body. I lied there in complete paralysis until I fought my body enough to wake up. I did this a few more times. Once I fell into a dream and quickly realized and came out of it and the next couple times I was right back in the paralysis, unable to move or go anywhere. I'm not afraid of breaking free. I'm afraid of being trapped.

I know how to get there but how do I actually get out?

Any tips?

Thanks.

That is sleep paralysis you're explaining. Lots of people get it, especially when trying to AP.

I've just had my first OBE, you can read how I did it here, it might not work for you but it did me

PS: Don't worry about the sleep paralysis.

Blessings!

Hey Enlightenment, congrats to you on your first obe. I am going to read about it after I make this post.

Saria, we don't get sick and fed up that easily! actually, any fear can hinder your progress... but accordint to the link you posted, it describes what Enlightenment said too. The paralysis, while not experienced by everyone, is something that is a positive marker, indicating that you are on the right path. If this does make you feel really uncomfortable in the future, instead of fighting and forcing the movements to come... calm down and focus on your body, and bringing your many selves together. I hope that helps. I've felt that before and I know it's a little scarey.

Now you know what it is, you can recognise and be aware if it comes again, I get out of this by focusing on my vocal cords,' calling' to break the symptoms. Focusing on a limb to induce movement also works, if it happens, relax afterwards before trying again, don't try too quickly to go back. Sleep paralysis can occasionally occur as part of an underlying medical ailment, if your on regular meds. it can happen too. If it persists it's worth getting checked out.

Thanks DW!

Sorry, I really didn't explain that too well at all. DW and Eretik has explained it a lot better

From what I've read on Sleep Paralysis it's better not to fight the feeling, just go with it, but that must be very hard as it must be really scary. I have never suffered from it so I don't know. Keep on practising OBE's though, don't let it deter you.

Good Luck!

Well the thing is, I CAN recognize it. It happens very VERY sporadically (maybe 2, 3 times a year) but when it does. It scares the hell out of me. I usually get out of it by fighting it off and making myself move. It takes concentration but it works. I know for AP to work for me, I have to accept that state and embrace it and advance to the next step. Unfortunately when I DO get to that point, it happens so rarely that when I'm ready to take it on, it doesn't happen for a real long time and when it does, it completely takes me on by surprise. But I think, I'm gonna try again tonight. BTW Thanks for the tips. I've also heard some other tips from my RL friends. Here's a few of them:

Use your element:
Mine is Earth, so I was instructed to vizualize a bridge leading to a forrest and just stop to observe everything.

Using energy to "pull"
Another tip someone gave me was to vizualise the energy spinning around you from outside of your body, pulling you out.

There was another one where I should try vizualizing my energy gathering outside of my body to pull me out or something like that. I guess I'll try again tonight (or possibly tomorrow if I have the free time) and see if that works.

However that initial article was a great help. Instead of it taking me a good hr or 2 to fall asleep, 2 nights in a row, I've been able to fall asleep in under 10 minutes. Amazing for me.

Thanks all.

Blessings

When I was 10 or so I tried many times to do astral projection. I didn't call it that, I didn't have a name for it. Anyways, this happened to me a lot and I gave up trying after a few years and started trying again when I was in my late teens, same result, and gave up still didn't have a name for it. Then maybe five years ago without even trying or anything this sleep paralysis started happening, there are no underlying medical causes. It however, has never alarmed me too much, but it is a pain when I need to get out of bed to do things on my days off and I am having this. I know I could break it if I really really had to, but unless I have a reason to, other than my druthers I don't. It happens sometimes when I have to get up for work and trust me coming out of this suddenly when you have to be in a hurry is not what I would call fun. I will be somewhat dazed for several hours.
Reason is out to lunch. How may I help you?

As much as I dislike answering a question with a question... Do you know where your wanting to go and do you have a clear picture of where you are? Think of it like a planning a trip. Have a good idea of the route your going to take and you can relax and have fun getting there.

Good Luck and Gods' Bless

Have you tried it with music? I've never had the freeze up problem when I've used music for journeying... I've mentioned Michael Horner's stuff before... for the kind of OBE you are doing; I'd recommend his Singing Bowls CD for that. You might also try some of the "Ecstatic Body Styles" poses. They help a great deal.

As much as I'd like to, I don't have a working CD player aside from the computer which is a floor down from my bedroom.

How about a tape recorder and a drum? You could make your own drumming tape. Just strike the drum once per second. If that sounds too slow, then redo it for twice a second at a steady even beat with as little difference in volume as possible. Then do a much faster riff at the end to "bring you back". Here it's ok to get louder or to be rythmic.

The ideal length for a journey is about 15 to 30 minutes. It sounds short... but it works. The riff at the end should be about thirty seconds long. Yes, it does mean you will be looking at a clock for the duration of your recording, but trust me it's worth it.

Don't have a drum? Use a rattle, woodblock, a bell, or any percussion instrument instead. I think a bell would work better once a second, esp. if it resonates a great deal when it rings.

Too bad metronomes don't have built in alarms. :-)
