I would only tell people if I was asked outright - I certainly don't offer the information, but then I don't offer much information about myself in general anyway.
Would you feel it's necessary to inform people if you were a Christian?

I'd also advise not saying that you are a member of one religion or another until you are knowledgable about the practices, beliefs, rites, and rituals of your religion. Remember, when you put yourself forward as a member of a religious order, you become ambassador for all of the rest of us. (And some of us have worked very hard to try and get good knowledge out there...there would be some folks who would be ticked to have that undone by a careless comment made out of a lack of knowledge.)

Well, juliaki has a point but I wouldn't go that far. Personally, I am definately Wiccan, but I am still learning (though with my mantra I plan to be learning no matter what 'degree' I am LOL).

If you're asked, go ahead and tell them you're wiccan or whatever you feel you are. Just make sure you tack on that you're studying or learning or something. Then you don't piss off the people that are afraid of getting a bad name from a newbie or think that some wiccans aren't as 'real' as others. It's also a disclaimer so if some fundie starts trying to pound you and looking for flaws in your logic, you can say 'I don't know yet. I'm learning. When I have a full answer I'll get back to you. But for now it just feels right.'

Look at each case on an individual basis. I have freinds who know and I have friends who don't. Most of my family do not know as I know how they'd react. Some of my wife's family knows because I know they'd be cool with it.

One friend of mine is a former SEAL and is a born again babtist.

He will NEVER know.
The greatest advice I was ever given: It matters not what you believe. Only that you believe it wholeheartedly.

Eep! I'd be afraid of getting a survival knife in the gullet!

The only person who knows I'm Wiccan is my mothers. the other don't really have to know that. I don't tell much about me anyway.
