Meditation

Postby Malvok » Sun Jul 29, 2007 9:57 pm

Well as i said in my greeting if you saw it i'm new to the craft. although meditating is something that I've done for the past couple years.

However last today something was different. when i started it was probably about 2 in the after noon and i usually when i stop it's only been an hour or so. When i opened my eyes however a number of things made me feel strange. For when when i first woke up i was rather cold even though It's summer the thing is i was fully clothed and feeling very cold the air felt rather warm. and i noticed the time it was around 9:30.

I also remember seeing some things as if i was dreaming but i was still sitting how i started. i remember seeing friends, family and even some Strange scenery(strange as in i don't remember seeing it before). And when i was awake again i didn't feel that bit of groggyness like i usually do when i wake up from sleeping.

I've never experianced this even though i've meditated in the past any advice or insight people might like to share would be most welcome. It didn't feel wrong just... unique.

Howdy there, first off.. Welcome to the board! I've been horribly forgetful as of late in terms of saying hey to new members in the Welcome Thread.. But, rest assured, you'll see me around a lot anyway :).

As you'll also probably notice, I'm a bit of a.. Well, a 'sceptic' I guess - But also Pagan haha. Or perhaps just 'Willing To Look At A Normal Alternative Before Considering Anything Supernatural Type Personl'? Although that's quite a long term.. Ah well, Scepticagan it is!

Anyway, on with the post.. I'd be tempted to suggest that you were sleeping - but in a lighter and perhaps more 'trance-like' state. Eretik (Geri) is our resident expert on.. Well, everything haha, so she's more likely to know better than I do as far as trance-states goes.

Either way, I have experienced a similar state in the past - whereby when I've 'awoken' I've not experienced the groginess that's usually associated with sleep. However, this is because I drifted off unintentionally at a peculiar time of day, and sitting in a peculiar position (on the floor, I believe). I'll often find myself drifting towards this state when I'm travelling, too, e.g. on a bus - It may only be a 5 minute journey, but I slip into this state, and then when we get there I'm wide awake again, no groginess. That's just a 'power nap' though, I guess :).

As for the cold / shivery feelings, I really couldn't say. It could just be hunger or your lack of movement for the past several hours whilst sitting in a highly uncomfortable (for sleep, anyway) position..

I'm sure someone will be able to offer you an alternative to my explanation, or provide you with more details.. But, going on my own personal experience with this kind of dreamy-sleepy-trancey-state.. I'd say that's what you experienced. Sleeping outside of your 'normal' sleeping hours (i.e. what your body is used to) can make your body / dream / sleep-state act in peculiar ways.. I should know, I have enough sleeping problems .

I wasn't really hungry when i woke up. I have weight problems for some reason i rarely develop an appitte what i eat is usually me forcing myself to eat something speaking of which i still have half a plate of spaghetti to finish. and the room i was meditating in was rather warm for me to go cold from sitting still i would think. (at least if i as sitting still that long normally.)

and it wasn't exactly 5 min it was closer to 7 hours cause i started around 2 and it was around 9:30 when I had waken up. that alone is strange because Sitting still isn't exactly my strong suite so normally i don't meditate for more than an hour sometimes 2

Shucks,Elem. \/ \/ \/,that's me clapping, lol. Very good post Elem, I think you tranced. It is so easy to lose track of 'realtime' it feels like moments. Meditation can easily cross over into a relaxed trance conscious/unconscious state. Enhanced alpha/theta waves, Samadhi like. The description of not being tired etc. fits with this. I 'd suggest working on it in small bursts, note down how it feels when you come back ,annotate your experiences etc. doing some reading on it and above all relaxing if it happens again, without trying. It seems you've just discovered a natural talent which will come in very handy should you enhance and work with it.

P.s wear a sweater, when you do it, the feeling cold is common.

Apologies, I should've made my post clearer - The 5 minutes was merely an example of one of the shorter periods of time I've had this happen. But, despite it being a shorter time period, it still fits with my other experiences of this state - You feel like moments have passed, but it's been a lot longer.

Thanks :D. I knew you'd have more knowledge on these trance-like states, so I'm glad you posted a message up too. You are the resident expert, after all ;) haha. As a side note, this has reminded me of something I meant to ask you.. By the time you read this, I should've sent you a PM.

Fiddling Pixy sticks I'm Freezing. went to meditate again this time it felt similar, but this time as I started out fine. inhaling and exhaling i started to feel like i was cooling down slowly in general but then it just started to feel that with every time i breathed out a new wave of cold kept washing over me kept getting colder.

Also just before i woke up when breathing out it felt like something was pulling at me. It didn't feel as if my body was moving it's more like there was this intangible suction pulling at me as I breathed out.

Physically i feel exhausted, but mentally i feel wide awake. I stopped because i couldn't take the cold anymore. I've always had an intolerance for the cold but I felt like i was outside in December. I live in Ontario Canada so you can get an idea of the temperature. below freezing.

Didn't feel warm again until i was about done this post. and remembering what it felt like gives me goosebumps

Hello Malvok and welcome to the board :D . It does sound like you may have dozed off but thats ok. Meditation and visualization is something that just takes practice and time but it seems that you are well on your way. Just remember when you begin to work on the astral level (vision quests, spirit journeys etc.) things will get a little weird. Sometimes when you make the journey you bring something back with you, thought forms or spirits (which might account for the temperature change. I usually feel cold in the presence of spirits. When you meditate and when you visualize you are raising energy and that energy can attract other energies into your circle), and you may find it hard to put your finger on just what it is that is at work around you. Stay focused. And always remember to ground the energy when you finish a session. Some people may not find it necessary to ground after meditating but I believe that you can never be too careful.
