I Want to Learn Meditation...

Postby Sombra » Thu May 21, 2009 1:55 am

I've tried multiple times before but I can't seem to get myself relaxed. I end up feeling very jumpy like I need to move around a lot and on top of the pent up energy I feel like I have too many thoughts in my head and I don't know what to do with them.

I really want to learn meditation, but sometimes I don't feel like I ever will. Relaxation doesn't come naturally to me and I don't know what to do about the access energy it seems that I have. Maybe there's some meditations involving motion that I an work with?

Relaxed stillness meditation?

But I'll have to try walking meditation.

I was asking because I'd wasn't sure what it was exactly. I don't have much knowledge of different types of meditation and had never heard of relaxed stillness meditation before. I hope it isn't something very obvious or else I'll feel very silly...

I sometimes still have a hard time meditating due to the same issues with racing thoughts. Here's a little trick I've found works great for me:

I find it easiest to lay down, but everyone's different.

I imagine a cauldron of water, and every thought that enters my head is represented as a wave in the water. I visualize my hand flattening (or sort of ironing) the wave out, thereby getting rid of that thought.
Eventually it will be very easy to imagine nothing but that cauldron full of STILL waters!

Couldn't hurt to try it out, it worked for me!

Bright Blessings!

Hi...I dont know about the meditation that would involve any kinda motion but i would illustrate a meditation technique that is quite heplful. I know its hard to meditate when there are so many thoughts racing in your head.It happpens with me as well, but after few meditation sessions you will find it easier to concentrate without clouding your mind with all kinda thoughts. if u start to meditate say today, dont expect to have full concentration, just meditate everyday and u will see the difference in say 5 days time- u will be able to feel clarity in your thought process.

This technique involves 3 stages of breathing. Sit on the floor/bed and close your eyes. 1st stage-take longer deep breaths say 30 times. 2nd stage- normal breathing 60 times .3rd stage- very quick and short breaths 60 times. After u are done with the 3 stages resume the same stages from the 1st stage....more like goin in a cycle of 1st stage, 2nd stage,3rd stage.keep repeating.... U can increase the no.of counts say in the 1st stage 60, 2nd stage-120,3rd stage- 120. I mean whatever the no.of breathings for 1st stage; the breathing count in 2nd and 3rd stage would just be double of that.To end the meditation, lie on your back and breathe normally for 5 mins. While you are doing it,imagine u are sitting near the ocean, listening to the waves- it will calm you down.in the beginning you will have all the random thoughts distracting you but with time you will be able to concentrate. Dont fight the thoughts, let it come and go....when u are able to concentrate, focus on your dreams and ambitions or positive happy moments,or the things you want in life....you will feel rejuvenated and relaxed and full of positive energy....with clarity of thought. My uncle who taught it to me claimed that this technique is helpful to cure minor ailments like headache, joint pains, bodyaches, mild depression etc.one just needs to be consistent. i havent meditated for quite sometime now and i think i need to resume. Its a shame i dont do it consistently even after seeing its benefits myself in the past. i can vouch on its efficiency but like i said one needs to be consistent.
