I think we need to define exactly what we mean by 'curse'.
I have my own little table which I refer to when working with such things. Please feel free to use it yourself;
Jinx
A tranference of negative energy. Usually a thought of something bad to happen to another who is disliked. Normally jinxes are weak in strength and only work if the person sending the jinx has a higher than average psychic ability. Jinxes are usually very minor and short-lived.
Crossing
Slightly more potent than a Jinx. Crossing someone is to transfer negative energy in the same way as a jinx but a crossing is repeated over a period of time. The level of dislike from the sender to the receiver is so bad that even the mention of their name makes the sender angry and hateful which further boosts the crossing.
Darkening (also known as 'The Evil Eye')
Usually some form of low-level magick is performed to create a darkening, usually in the form of candle magick, herb magick, Amulet or Talisman. The receiver has a number of minor instances of 'bad luck' such as a loss of job, minor accidents, relationship break-ups etc. A darkening is short lived and after one or two minor incidents it's all over. It's unusual for a darkening to leave any lasting physical or emotional damage.
Hex
Magickal ritual is always employed in a Hex. The physical form of a hex usually manifests in more serious damage than in a Darkening. Serious accidents and/or long term ill health is common with a hex. The ability to perform everyday activities is somewhat impared and decision making is difficult.
Curse
A successful curse is only placed by a very experienced practicioner of magick, usually a practicioner of 'darker arts'. The damage sustained from a curse is of a very high level and is usually permanent. A true curse is extremely difficult to remove - even by the person who sent it. The complete break-down of almost every aspect of the receivers' life is certain. The cursed individual will need a high level of 'light work' over a sustained period of time to counter-balance the effects of the curse.
Please remember this table is MY opinion only. As is everything I post on this forum.
I make no claims to be an 'expert' on anything, I simply make assumptions and comments on things I have personally experienced in my years of spiritual work.
Please adopt or reject my opinions as you see fit.

I missed this post, what is said here is true.Curses and Hex's can only work if the recipient believes in them, and is given visual indications that they have been cast.
Voodoo is a good example of how well they can work.
If you don't believe in them they will not work!!!!!
So change your thought's from negative (victim) to possitive (invincible) and don't give these thoughts a chance to create fear within you.
