Book of Shadows
Hi! I'm fairly new to Wicca and Im just starting my book of shadows. I was trying to figure out a way nobody in my family could get ahold of it and I thought of an idea. In high school, A friend of mine and I made up our own written language. It consisted of symbols that stood for different letters. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use that language to write my entire book of shadows.

It may be a bit late, but I've dabbled in codes a bit. (I got horribly bored and - for those who know the Elder Scrolls games - memorized the Daedric alphabet)
Any way; that could work, and that you know the code is perfect. If they do manage to get a hold of it, you could say that it's some kind of prop. (if you're into theatre, role playing games, or even just if you made some kind of costume for a party or something.) Also, you could simply say that you wanted to write something that looked cool, which might help keep them oblivious IF they were to somehow get a hold of it.
A key is a good idea too, just in case, but for that you should use spy tactics if you want to be sure nobody gets it, and tape it under a desk or behind a panel or something. It's a bit of work just for a key, but eh.
Anyway I hope any of that helped. 0_o

I'd like to point out though, that a letter-to-letter cipher wouldn't hold up to serious scrutiny. Certain letters, like E, or words, like THE, appear too many times and make the entire thing easy to crack if someone is really dedicated. However, most people wouldn't spend the time or energy, I just enjoy codebreaking. On the other hand though, spells might be weird enough words and sentence structures that you'd probably throw off most expectations. So, you have a pretty good idea going for you there.
