"Dawn"
Crystalline imagery
On blades of grass -
The abandoned sculptures of night faeries
Already drying in the morning sun...
The sun that filters through
Open windows
And shines across my bed, waking me from
A dream of childhood and someone long gone.
Rolling over to face
The next in line,
I suddenly remember that I can't
Quite recall if her eyes are green or blue...
And I wonder how it
Got so screwed up -
How my life came to be something measured
By the many whose lives I've touched and left.
The rays of dawn brighten
To warm fingers,
fingers that caress me like a lover
And leave my mind filled with thoughts so simple...
My love is like the dawn,
Full of promise,
But a dawn that gives way to the heat of
A summer day that gives way to the night.
Crystalline imagery
In gentle rain,
Falling as the night deepens and darkens
On strangers asleep in each other's arms...
Darkness like the love that
I've never felt -
Faded feelings that give way to the hope
That tomorrow's stranger will bring a change...
In the dawn.
