The Failures are Important Too

Postby LearsFool » Sat Jan 09, 2010 11:29 pm

If you can call it that, really. But I feel more honest and down to earth when I acknowledge my spiritual shortcoming sometimes. And in a sense I have to today...as I am, and have been for the last week or so, sick as the proverbial dog. Seems like a kind of flu. Don't think it's H1N1 though.

Anyway, when it was first coming on, I did my usual thing of thinking more about health, and the body's miraculous tendency to heal itself. I continued with my regular routine, acknowledging that I felt somewhat out of it, but still visualizing myself in the coming days as being vibrant and healthy. I saw the cells in my body fighting off the sickness.

And I failed miserably, lol.

Perhaps that is not being totally fair to myself. Nothing is full proof of course. People are always going to get sick. But I have to confess after about a day of it, I pretty much resigned myself to it and said, "screw positive thinking, I feel like dog crap",. Ha. Is this why I am still sick? Who knows? But I had to confess that I just didn't have it in me this time to ward things off with positive thoughts. (Though for years I believe I have in fact held off many colds and flues by doing that very thing. Maybe my number was up.)

A great post! While it's true that positive thinking and the powers of the mind are extraordinary there must be balance. The body must be physically nurtured just as the mind and spirit must be. To rely wholly on the mental, spiritual, or physical/material is detrimental to the other two aspects no matter what you try! Sooner or later it catches up to you. I too have recently been very sick but thankfully am coming out of it now.

Hope you get better real soon! Blessings and Wellness to you!

a good point, and I did fail to mention that in addition to all of my visualization, there was much Nyquil. ;)

Casting spells under any kind of "non herbal" medication can alter things a bit. It's an outside source of the non-organic kind.

I say drink some lemon tea (with some honey to sweeten it if you want_, sleep alot and keep up with that nyquil. You'll feel fine in a week. ;)

I also meditate over my hot tea when I'm feeling sick. I call it, "Feel better ceremony" lol I do it without thinking sometimes and people go, "WHAT are you doing?!"

It's really simple and you can do it anywhere.

Take your tea (I usually do it when it's too hot to drink anyway, but lots of awesome steam is coming from it) Breathe in through your nose until your lungs are full, hold for a second or two, breathe out. (Make sure to breath out somewhere NOT on top of your tea.) Visualize breathing in the healthy, happy steam... you breathe out all the nasty sickness. Continue until you feel satisfied or you think the tea is about ready to drink.

Be careful! Don't burn yourself!

Thank you for posting this. To be human is not about being positive or negative, it is about acknowledging that both live in the same place and it is that polarity that makes us whole, just as the earth.

"Colds" are prevented through thought and "Flu" is prevented through firm personal boundaries. When colds are present it can indicate being overwhelmed and a need for the body and spirit to integrate on a deeper level to experience solace.

Sometimes people need to get sick to heal a deeper imbalance. I am definitely not saying you are sick because you need to be sick, by no means. I only mean to suggest what you already know: that failures can be opportunities to learn and accept something new about ourselves.

"Colds" must be confronted as soon as they enter the field. I find that a very strong tea and prayer, if taken immediately, does the trick. The tea should be made of herbs you know. If this is not done, then it is necessary to go within and to ride it out.

Blessings on your Healing Journey

Thanks for the interesting replies to my post. I am recovered now, with only the occasional thought to remind me of my sickness.

But all of the advice was worth reading, and I thank everyone for it.

And I will say that being out of commission for two weeks did get me to thinking about some deeper spiritual issues. (What else can one do but lay around and think when hit with the flu?)

So, I don;t know if I needed to be sick directly, but perhaps being sick was something that was ceased upon by the powers that be as a chance to get me to think about some things I hadn't been thinking about.
