Hoodoo Difficulties

I've read quite a bit about hoodoo, from background to practices, beliefs, all that jazz. So recently I jotted a few hoodoo spells to perform, did them and they worked..... in the exact opposite way that I wanted them to. I started out with something simple and well known in the Hoodoo (and probably general witchcraft) community called a Honey Jar Spell. They aren't supposed to work quickly, so I figured if it started to go south I could end it. Well, it worked almost instantaneously. I used it to try and bring a friend of mine closer to me and to protect him. We were already close friends, but I wanted him to be my closest friend.

Instead, the next day he ditches me. The day after he ditches me. This goes on for a week until I'm fed up with it/him/the whole situation. So I put everything of his I own into a brown paper bag (including the Honey Jar) and leave to pick him up (he said he wanted to explain what was going on) an hour early. I needed to clear my head, so I went to the park and left his stuff in the truck. I spend some time there, jumped back in my truck, picked him up and finally I'm just like, "Here! Have your stuff." He opens the bag and all of the wax on the jar had melted away.

I drop him back off at his house and as soon as I did it was like this weight had been lifted off of me. So I apologized for all the terrible (and yes, they were terrible) things I said and now we're friends again.

Just strange how the day after I made it things went south and then the day I got rid of it things got better. Not saying it was all magic, could have been coincidence (if you believe in it). I'm taking it as a sign to stay away from Hoodoo... Or at least do it backwards. XD

As someone from that area, and practices Voodoo and Hoodoo, I got to throw in my two cents. The first thing I need to point out is that you read about Hoodoo, the people who write about Hoodoo really take a diverse look at the practice. They shouldn't do that, because Hoodoo has a lot of regional boundaries.

The way Hoodoo is done in New Orleans is different then the way it is done in Baton Rouge. Then if you get out in the Bayou, you get a lot of really freaky crap that I will have trouble explaining. The stuff in the bayou you have to see with your own two eyes to understand.

It is because of this difference that I must ask this: How exactly did you cast this spell?

Also don't do it backwards. Also don't believe what you read in books about Voodoo or Hoodoo. They are both oral traditions that vary from region to region, and should have NEVER EVER been written down.

It wasn't difficult, it was simply write the person's full name on a piece of a brown paper bag 3, 7, or 9 times. Around that you were to write your own name however many times you'd written theirs, then 3 more times. In a continuous circle around what you'd already written, you were to write a phrase that explained what you wanted to happen (I can't for the life of me remember what I wrote, which I know is probably the problem. It had something to do with keeping him close and keeping him safe).

I took one of his hairs and one of my own and folded them up in the paper. To the bottom of the jar I added nettle, which I have always associated with him, because he naturally smells like it and it is often used for protection, as well as a drop of my blood on the corner of a note he'd written me. I filled it with enough honey to cover everything inside and anointed a white candle, charged it with protection and friendship, then let it burn down.

That was it.

Also don't believe what you read in books about Voodoo or Hoodoo. They are both oral traditions that vary from region to region, and should have NEVER EVER been written down.

I understand that, but there's absolutely no other way for me to learn about it. I don't live in the south and to my knowledge neither hoodoo nor voodoo made it this far north in any great number.

I've never seem the honey jar spell done like that before, but the principle of it is sound. Except for one thing.

Next time run the spell like this:

Take a jar or bottle. You can use anything that can hold a candle. You write down on a piece of paper what you want and who you want it for. Put the first and last name on the piece of paper and then under it write what you want. Put that piece of paper in the honey jar. Then put in the nettle. Then take a candle and use the jar as a holder. Some people will let the candle burn all the way out, but use your best judgment. Usually you can feel when the candle needs to be blown out.

Then take the bottle and bury it. This is where you got it wrong. Most people that write about Hoodoo and Voodoo don't understand that the spell has to be deposed of a certain way. It has to be buried or thrown in a stream or something to that affect.

It's funny you say that! Because actually, after I'd finished, I thought to myself... "Now what do I do with it." Where I found the spell just said to keep it and continue to burn candles until you got your desired effect. I guess had I done that, perhaps I wouldn't have had a problem. Though by the sound of it, it was a faulty spell anyway. smiley17d Gypped. Damn.

Thank you very much for your assistance, though, I will be sure to take down the replacement you have given me and use it when I need it next. Oh, but just to clarify, I put the candle IN the jar, correct? Because in the spell I used you put the lid on the jar and then let the candle burn on top so that the wax ran down the jar. It looked cool, but as for effectiveness... well, you read.

Yeah put the candle in the jar.

You don't have to use honey. Some people do, but I have never found it necessary. I come from "boondocks" Voodoo thou, and it might be different somewhere else.

I think he's saying you don't have to use honey. I think the reason it's called a honey jar spell is because originally you did the spell using an actual honey jar.

There isn't any honey. You just use a honey jar.

So wait, you did this spell, and in the end you became better friends just like you originally wanted.....how did this spell not work? Yeah it may not have worked in the manner that you wanted it to or thought it would, but from what you're saying it did. It caused you to overcome a few things and strengthen your bond, which if the distance wouldn't have came first, wouldn't have happened. The wax just melting off to me says that the spell was done and you got what you wanted.

Guess they should have included the fact that the wax has to melt off for it to work, though. XP
