Help in Finding My Matron Goddesses

Postby Princess_Butterfly » Sun Aug 07, 2011 9:01 pm

Hey, everyone! Long time no post! :D I was just wondering, what is the best way to go about finding and choosing your Matron/ Patron deity? I love Greek mythology, and I feel a connection to both Athena and Aphrodite. Is it possible to work with them together, especially considering, that according to the Greek myths, they do not get along. Any advice??

Nothing is written in stone that you have to choose one god and one goddess my boyfriend worships 3 goddesses and 3 gods, all came and chose him for some reason or another.

go with which ever ones you feel a strong connection with.

I follow Dionysus because he's a god of theatre and harvests (also because he is the god of wine he balances with the fact that I am a recovering alcoholic.)

you dont ever have to have a matron or patron deity. Some people do some people dont and like Zili pointed out some have more than one.

In considering a matron you should be taking into consideration you yourself as a person. Do you embody the qualities or aspects of the deity in question? Could the way you live your life day to day be seen as an embodiment of her and what she would deem a right way to live in her honor? The animals that are sacred to that deity have they always held a special significance to you even before you were aware of that deities connection to them?

My matron is Morrigu which should not be confused with The Morrighan. Morrigu is only 1/3 of The Morrighan.
Morrigu is the Mistress of Magick, Goddess of Night and of War. She is the keeper of hidden knowledge. The defender of those who cannot defend themselves. Ravens are sacred to her.

I live my life to her honor in deed as well as in ritual. I will fight for what is right no matter the cost. I will fight for those that cannot fight for themselves. I will impart my knowledge on those who seek it. I have always revered the Raven, The Crow, and all birds even prior to Morrigu. I have always had an affinity for the night as opposed to the day and storms are very special to me. *Morrigu in the form of The Morrighan are credited with a great storm in my traditions history.

These things cant be a some of the time thing they have to be an all of the time thing. It is through these things that sets you and this deity apart from you and the other ones. It is one or ones you are most closely connected to.

As far as Athena and Aphrodite not getting along I cant really think of any reason why you would need to call the two of them together but even if you did i dont forsee there being a problem. Maybe you can consider having two seperate shrines/altars for them.

But like I said you dont have to have a matron or patron at all you can just simply honor them all equally. Or you dont even have to call any of them by a name you can just say God and Goddess or Lord and Lady and skip the names all together

I found mine through meditation. I meditated on finding my Goddess and symbols came into my mind. When I researched these symbols and found Isis, I immediately found a connection. When you know, you just know. Good luck!
