Ether Covening: Spellworking with People from Afar

In Llewellyn's 2010 Magical Almanac, and I came across an article called Ether Covening by Elizabeth Hazel. According to Hazel,

"Ether-sometimes called the fifth element-flows through the fabric of reality and is the natural conduit for magical energy. A ritual or spell done by a group of practitioners simultaneously at remote locations is called ether covening."

Basically, ether covening is useful when you want to do a group ritual/spell and your coven members or fellow solitary practitioners can't meet. This works when you don't have pagans living close by, but are in contact with pagans out of state or out of the country. Example- I live in California while my old coven lives in Nevada. We can't drive up and meet each other whenever we feel like doing a ritual or spell. So, it would be useful to us to do the ether covening.
For this to work, all participants need to pick a date and time for the spell or ritual. If you're doing something that requires certain materials, like a white candle, then you need to make sure every participant has the materials. Likewise if you're doing something where you all have to chant or say certain things, everyone needs a copy of the script.
Time is really important. If the participants are in a different time zone, you need to check up and make sure all the times are lined up correctly.
The point of ether covening is having a ritual or spell done at the same time, but in different locations. Another thing to remember is if all people participating in a spell want the effect of the spell. example: a person with a good job shouldn't participate in a spell for attracting new employment. So, make sure everyone's participating for the right reasons. It's like clearing the tabs up on your internet browser so it can run faster or more effectively toward your goal.
Those participating should spend a few moments concentrating on the other participants, by saying their names or imagining them. It will help make the etheric net stronger.

very cool Ravencry, my group too is scatterd about, and we have done this for many rituals (hehehe the Ethernet!) we used to call it astral circle. One time everyone called the covenstead as the rite was preformed. But doing the rite, at a certain time, then comparing notes the next day was pretty interesting. BB, Firebird

The next full moon I'm supposed to be using the "ethernet" with a friend of mine. I'm very excited. Pagans could use this as a way to make some positive changes in the world

Like Ravencry was saying, make a point of starting at the same time, taking time zones into consideration. We would take a moment to gaze upon to moon and visualize who is with us, cast circle as usual, (taking careful mental note of subtle changes and shifts) then use...lets say, a blue candle for gaining inner peace, ...and annionting it with lavender oil, and once it is charged with your intention placing it upon an Altar set with blue stones, blue cloth and lavender herbs, raise your energy, dancing or singing or whatever THEN, light the candle, "imagining" you all are doing this at the same time, see in your minds eye this becoming real for all involved. Since time and space become irrelavant in circle, it is nearly impossible for time to be exact, this is why you "see" the magic becoming real for all involved, for a moment...before you ground and finish circle. Take your notes...like the wind blew hard when you called center, or during visulation of the goal you mind drifted to a desert island for a moment, or an owl flew over right when the candle was lit. These are the notes you will be comparing with those who joined you on the Astral or the "Ethernet".

There was a group in Australia a few years back that asked folks to enjoy an orgasm on the Winter Solstice while visualizing world peace. Can you imagine the magic that would happen if everyone actually got on board for that one!!??
