I painted a couple of stones once for a portable Altar, one was the Sun (God) and one was the Moon (Goddess). but in my circle now, we use a horn to represent Crennunos and an owl feather to represent Cerridwen. You could also get little statues. One of my favorite symbols at harvest time is the cornucopia,.... it embraces both the God and the Goddess in one, with its pointy end on one side ,...and the other end the open vessel that embodies the harvest foods!

You don't have to have candles. Water and bowls of the earth can represent the Goddess...and feathers and horns can represent the God. Read up on your Deity and you should find items specific to him/her.

Hi, Witchcraftwitch! <3
I just wanted to throw in my two cents. I just wanted to say that I use a beautiful piece of pottery (or a chalice with water) my friend made filled with salt and also use gemstones to represent the Divine Goddess. For the Divine God I use incense (fire=masculine energy) and a oil burner and sticks I plan to use for wands. I use these, primarily, because they represent the Divine polarity/balance the best for me. The key is doing what feels right! You don't need a specific type of candle or anything to work with Old Magick. Do what FEELS right to YOU :) That is when you will find success!
Peace and Love, Dear Friend! :)
