Question about Wiccan Deities
Question about Wiccan Deities
I have a question for the Wiccans (and really anyone out there) concerning deities. I learned that Wicca was focused around one main God and Godess. But if that is so, how come so many Wiccans pray to different deities (such as Greek, Roman, and Egyptian ones) when they do spells or just need help? Can someone please explain this to me? Are the other deities representaitons of specific parts of the God and Goddess? For example, praying to Aphrodite when you need help in love is really just praying to the love "part" of the main Goddess?
Re: Question about Wiccan Deities
There are different sects of Wicca just like there are many sects of Christianity (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist and so on you get the idea.) Many pagan and wiccan paths (especially Neo-wicca or Neo-paganism) allow the practitioner to choose or find a Matron and Patron Deity (Goddess and God) and some choose to believe when they use a specific god or goddess's name they are praying to a humanized aspect of an over all god/goddess form.
Re: Question about Wiccan Deities
Thank you so much, Zili! I've started praying to specific Gods and Goddesses (such as Thoth and Hecate for help on very important tests or other school/learning aspects) and believing them to be a certain aspect of the God and Goddess (Thoth=God's learning "part"). Thank you for clearing up my confusion that I wasn't the only witch to do that. Thank you so much!
