How to find your patron deities?

Postby julietaw » Sun Nov 17, 2013 4:52 pm

I am starting to believe that Loki may be my patron God... He's been on my mind for about a week now, and it seems like everywhere I turn he's being mentioned. So I'm curious how to find out if he is. Also if he is.. Is it bad? What does he like for offerings? I just finished meditating asking for my patron to show themselves to me. I believe Loki showed himself to me. What steps should I take to make sure he is my patron God and to bond with him?

You might find this thread about members' experiences working with Loki to be helpful. I think the general consensus is that one must be really cautious about working with him, because he is very chaotic, and also to be wary of popular media representations of him.

I totally agree with Xiao. Loki in some ways is a lot like Coyote. They're tricksters at heart and their lessons can be in the form of a cruel joke. I'm not saying don't work and/or dedicate yourself to Loki but like Xiao said, do some research to make sure you understand what you're getting yourself into. If you're a proud person who doesn't take a joke or a good ribbing very well then Loki's first objective will be to make you stop taking yourself so seriously.

Side Note: Don't use the Marvel Movies & Comic Books about Thor as your idea of who and what Loki is. They are very different.

I would also recommend the book "Devoted To You" by Judy Harrow for some excellent information on finding and working with Patron Deities. I think you'd find it useful.
