About Patron/Matron

Postby narveya » Sat Apr 04, 2015 8:37 am

I guess I'm very noisy here haha
I have question about deities, especially patron/matron. For the background, I never thought of having a patron until I got several signs. The signs intesify, that's when I realized that I was being contacted. So I decide that I got a patron. I even got the feeling that my patron God wants me to be patient about patron Goddess haha.

The questions are, is it alright to have a patron/matron that doesn't match up our ancestry? Is it alright to have patron and matron from different pantheon? I'm also kinda curious about patron and do you have more than 2? There are a lot of views for this and I wonder what people think.
Thanks again for your attention

Absolutely it's okay to have a patron/matron outside of your ancestry. :) Some people do work with gods of different pantheons, or have multiple gods/goddesses all from different pantheons. Someone who does that can chime in more, but my understanding is it's always best to make sure with the gods you're working with that they don't mind being invoked together; it may be more prudent to work with them separately.

My own reservation is to avoid working with gods and goddesses from closed cultures. By this I mean cultures that are alive and practiced today by their ancestral group whose members prefer outsiders not to participate. This can be appropriation and it's not respectful to the current practitioners or their gods.

Thanks for clearing that to me! I mostly work with different pantheons but deities with same background, knowledge and wisdom (so does my patron). I'm going to spend my time with maths and physics as civil engineer so
