Every month right before my period starts I get really depressed. Like, suicidal thoughts, crying over stupid things, all out awful feelings. i've tried various forms of treatment prescribed by my doctor, but nothing is helping. If anything it usually gets worse while on the pill or whatever new thing they have me on.
So does anyone else suffer from this?
If so, how do you treat it?
Many thanks & blessed be,
Carrie

Re: Spell or Herbal Remedy for Depression?
I have suffered from depression. Although, I am not a lady, I still understand your situation. I used (still do sometimes) get suicidal thoughts and the only thing that prevented me was the fear of pain (which is more of a phobia than anything). The way I helped myself was not through medication, spells, or even herbal remedies. It was just plain thought. I didn't even talk to anyone about it. I just thought of what I would lose and what I would do to the people I loved if I actually carried out suicide. Now, this may or may not make you more sad depending on how sensitive you are. So, there is a treatment for the sadness. I have never cast a spell to affect my emotions whatsoever even though I suffered from depression. I didn't take meds either. You just, I know this might have been told to you before, think happy thoughts. Think of all of the good things that have happened in your life and just let them fill you up. Hold a black stone of some sort to let the negative energy flow into and just leave yourself with pure happiness. This usually works for me. And remember to put the stone under running water or in salt water to get rid of the negative energy. I've had stones that I've used too much and didn't cleanse and I could literally feel the energy in it from just holding it.
Hope this helped,

Do you have these feelings any other time of the month? Or only right before your period starts?
If it's the latter, I get that too. Although it's gotten much less severe since moved into my mid-20's. I tend to chalk mine up to the hormonal influx that happens at that time, and I try to take extra care of myself during that week (limiting as many stressors as I can and spending more time with good food/snacks and favorite tv shows). I don't get the suicidal thoughts though, so it's a good thing you're working with your doctor if it's that severe.
The crying over nothing? Absolutely. Getting extremely sensitive over dumb things? Absolutely.

A friend of mine has pretty much the same symptoms...
She has been getting those injections to stop her period,

You are likely feeling this way also because of a hormonal imbalance. That and diet can cause a problem in some people.
If you want to balance your hormones with the help of herbs and diet let me know and I'll post a plan for you.
Of course the mind plays a part too in which case the perfect addition to herbal remedies and diet would be studying hermetic principles and wisdom.

Re: Spell or Herbal Remedy for Depression?
I have not had your particular problem nor am I a doctor, but I do suffer from depression. In my humble opinion, treatment starts with regular exercise, a healthy diet, and a consistent sleep schedule. I know the last thing you want to do at that time in your cycle is move from the couch, but your body needs it. Breathe fresh air, feel your muscles work (a walk is a good place to start, but I prefer vigorous exercise), feed your body well, and tire it out for a good night's sleep.
I'm not saying this is the CURE, but it will help tremendously when paired with whatever treatment the actual medical professionals prescribe.

Firstly let me say
WELCOME BACK! SingingCanyon !! Long time no see, good to have you around again, and you new avatar is real cute!
I really wish I had a solid answer for you, because I can completly relate. When I was still of childbearing age this was a huge problem too. Some months were worse than others. Taking birth controll pills did help to a small degree, and I was on them for about 5 years maybe more...problem now is, because I took them, they may be contributing to extensive and really horrible hot flashes that I am having now...., been going on for 10 years, blaaaa. ...And I have been off them for at least 25 years. Anyway, when I was living at my parents house it was in many ways worse, and I think the enviroment may have had something to do with it. I was definatly more confrontational and argumentative once a month, it was terrible. Then I felt so hopeless, I just wanted to check out. The pain too was pretty unbearable. My mom was a great nutritionist and I hiked all over the rocky hills behind my house, so I don't think that exercise and diet was that much of a helpful factor, of course it can't hurt! I tried anti depressants and st johns wort ( not at the same time though) tissue salts, and rescue remedy. ..all to not much avail
One thing that may help is some counseling, see if you can find some professinal to see if there is some other underlying problem...but it really sounds like you suffer from dysphoric pms
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premenst ... c_disorder
if you like i would be willing to help you plot out a spell to try.
There was a book I read that helped quite a bit, she describes ways to embrace the blood, which was quite empowering. Although the author has run into some plagerism problems, i really liked the book. Sister Moon Lodge, by Kisma Stepanich.
please feel free to PM me when you are struggling.
many blessings, Firebird

Re: Spell or Herbal Remedy for Depression?
I was plagued by cysts in my tubes and on my overies,
I was 24yrs when they took my right tube and ovary
with a grapefruit-sized cyst. I fought hard to get that
done due to my age and no kids. The cysts would grow
and break each month as the egg passed by making
severe pains.
I fought a lot harder to get the rest out, continuing
that fight for 10 more years. Most of the problem was
due to the fact I had no kids. I still fought.
I don't have the patience to house-break a dog, could
you imagine trying to potty train a kid, LOL !
From all the remaining cysts that continued to grow
and break left all that gunk inside me. I finally found
a gyn who agreed to do the surgery as long as I had
an exploratory surgery so he could look inside. He
told me, "you were right, you need a hyst and all
that mess inside you."
My remaining tube was so full of scar tissue I had
apparently had a few tubular pregs. That added to
everything else, I thought it would be nice to have
a set of twin girls. When that didn't pan out I took
a name from each (names picked out) to create my
craft name.
So I also know how painful monthlys could be...
I feel sympathy to all who deal with anything
related to it.

Re: Spell or Herbal Remedy for Depression?
Hi SingingCanyon. A simple spell you might try is Healing Pouch for PMS and Cramps from the main spells site. The only thing I'd change is make the sigil based on an "I am" statement, rather than "I want to be." And if you intuitively feel like changing an ingredient, by all means follow your intuition on this.Every month right before my period starts I get really depressed. Like, suicidal thoughts, crying over stupid things, all out awful feelings...nothing is helping...how do you treat it?
And an herbal remedy I've found quite helpful for PMS-related depression and tension is to sip Tension Tamer tea (by Celestial Seasonings) throughout the day. You can find it in many grocery stores. Keep a couple tea bags in your purse, and keep a commuter cup full of it wherever you go. The ingredients help take the edge off PMS anxiety so you can focus on what you need to do.
Other suggestions that came to mind:
* Pay close attention to your dreams at this time. Keep a dream journal by your bed (or post dreams here if you'd like). Females are extremely intuitive right before their periods. Your dreams may reveal solutions to problems, or other insightful information, and once you process certain issues, you may feel much better
* Experiment with natural anti-depressants like St. John's Wort, L-Tyrosine or 5-HTP for the depression-like symptoms of PMS (Note: 1. Always check with your doc first, so these don't adversely affect your chemistry or any other treatments you may be taking, like SSRIs, MAO-Is, etc.... do not mix these, seriously; 2. Thoroughly do your homework and research any supplement before taking it, know the pros and cons, have a less-is-more approach, meaning take the least amount necessary)
* Create artwork (draw, paint, sculpt, write, sing/play an instrument, etc.). You may find that when you're feeling emotional it's the best time to create, you get interesting ideas then, and may do your best work. But, if nothing else, you may find the arts to be a soothing and cathartic release, free "art therapy." What does your depression look like? Paint or draw it. What does your depression sound like? Write the words you hear in your head as a poem. Then, put the poem to music if you'd like.
* Stay in your red tent/moon lodge until you feel stronger (meaning, honor your need for privacy). Hang a Do Not Disturb sign on your door and tell people you're going to work on your art or music for a few days, and you need them to leave you alone during that time. Let your calls go to voicemail and leave the computer off (haha, I know just reading that caused a mild panic attack for many folks)
* Eat chocolate, lotsa' chocolate. Yeeeaah, hehehe.

* Learn your body's patterns. Consistently chart your menstrual cycle every month so you can prepare for it ahead of time; try not to schedule physically- or mentally-taxing activities on those days

This psychologist is talking about scientific studies which seem to link PMDD with a sudden and severe
drop in serotonin, a major "feel-good" chemical our brains naturally produce. But, why does this happen?

Re: Spell or Herbal Remedy for Premenstrual Depression?
So sorry to get back to this thread late.
First of all, thank you all so much for the wonderful advice and support. You really make this thread a wonderful thing and a great place to turn to when people need help, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Nyd:
I would love to help balance my diet, I'm not the most healthy eater ever, but now that I'm self sufficient I would love to try and work on that, especially if it helps with the monthly issues.
firebirdflys:
Thank you so much! It's good to be back. Every now and again I vanish off here, but I always come back (even if I don't post anything.) (it's also really nice to be remembered.
)
I'll keep counseling in mind, it's hard for me to do, but it's better than sitting there feeling miserable for myself. Also, if you'd like to help with a spell, I wouldn't be against it. Also, also, (you made so many good points!) I'll have to check out that book if I can find a copy, it sounds interesting. Thanks for everything!
Kassandra:
That's a really interesting spell, I think I'll give it a shot next time I'm getting close to PMS week.
Also, thank you so much for all of the wonderful suggestions. I tend to try and ignore my period, so actually giving myself a break during that time might actually be really helpful.
Again, thank you all for the wonderful suggestions and support. I really appreciate all of you.

Glad it helps. Good luck on your journey with this --it's a long one, but it doesn't have to be an unpleasant one, and it can be a beautiful one.

I agree that this thread could be a great resource as you mentioned, SingingCanyon. Thanks for having the courage to post about it. I encourage people to keep posting their suggestions here, even when this becomes an "old" thread. This topic really has a widespread appeal, since this affects women (and their families, and co-workers, etc.) everywhere, all over the world. This topic will always be relevant, so the more resources and suggestions that help, the better, I'd say.You really make this thread a wonderful thing and a great place to turn to when people need help.
