The New Meat Meet!

Postby Becks » Sun Aug 09, 2015 7:47 pm

Hello everyone~

I stopped by a few days ago and had a good read of your site, and overall community. I thought I would create a profile to visit and see. I really appreciated the level of respect that seems to be a core value here.

I'm 36, and a fun fact about me is that I have lived on islands my whole life. I have a hard time for the purposes of introductions affixing a title to my practice. I would call myself someone who is largely solitary and a folk magic/hedge witch practitioner. None of these actually feel right to say....but it does feel right to say my path is long and winding. I was raised Catholic, and that wasn't my way. I did study and actually go on to initiate with a local "Mystery School" (very Wiccan/Gardnerian in form and practice), but ultimately it didn't feel "right", and I was called to resume my work alone.

I have many interests, and I'm totally a life long learner. I enjoy: guitar (I'm horrible), antiques, curiosities, good cooking, biology, herbalism, divination, embroidery, anything Natural History, bird watching (not freaky serious), spending time outside and reading are some of the ways I love to spend my free time. I'm about to go back and do a post degree professing program, and so I intend to do a lot of coursework in the next year and a bit...less fun hobby time for me.

I'm looking forward to sharing and connecting with a few of you here if that happens. I miss the exchange, and if I get to contribute in some small way, be a part of a few good threads, or learn something here-then that would be simply amazing. I know online forums are actually communities, and sometimes there is a fit and sometimes not. I have no real expectation, but I am truly thankful for this opportunity and I am really pleased to meet you all.

Many thanks for reading my blurb~

Welcome, its lovely to have you here.
I too play guitar, though I just got myself a nice ukulele so I've been mostly playing that lately.

I look forward to seeing you around the forum.

Merry meet Becks!
Welcome to the community, I'm sure you will find a niche here.
Love your neck of the woods, one of my best-est friends lived on Bowen Island for awhile.
See you around!

Thank you all for the warm greetings.

TwilightDancer-do you find playing as stress relieving as I do? It sure gives me something else to think about and enjoy.

Firebirdflys-I think that's amazing, then you are very familiar with the feel of this area. Did you ever get to visit Bowen? The world already feels smaller.

Take care all-thanks again.

Yes, and it is beautiful, but it has been a very long time since I was there. Unfortunatly I never did see her on Bowen, now she is moving back to the states and bought a place on Orcas Island. I would really like to get back up there, the whole energy of the area is just so GREEN, I love it! You are lucky to be in such a wonderful area...as a kid I remember a 2 month long camping journey with my parents to Vancouver Island, ...still one of the most memorable places I can recall. There was one area on V.I. in paticular, (can't remember the name) where we swam in a lovely little lagoon, then later when the tide went out we pryed oysters off the rocks and had them for dinner. Paradise!

That sounds like an epic trip with your parents. I'll bet you remember that trip vividly. Simply amazing. Orcas Island, from what I have heard-is NOTHING to sneeze at. I am lucky to be here, and I'm thankful for the landscape each day.

Of course. Anything that requires a little concentration is sufficient distraction. It certainly lightens my mood if I'm feeling down as well. Music is such a big part of my life, right now I'm looking for a nice Violin.

The New Meat Meet!

Postby keria » Mon Aug 10, 2015 4:59 pm

Hi Becks and welcome! It's always nice to see someone with similar interests. I too have a hard time categorizing myself as I am always learning and changing. Right now I would consider myself sort of a hedgewitch/eclectic witch/kitchen witch. I love growing and working with herbs and I am trying to learn about working with crystals. I am a Virgo and my element is earth so herbs and crystals are my top interests in my craft. I love anything outdoors, I am usually outside with my animals lol

Hi Keria, I'm an earth sign too-Capricorn. I really appreciate and can relate to the Virgo. Your profile looks very familiar-that is to say I'm pretty sure I was reading and interested in one of the threads you were involved in, or commenting on and nodding my head-yup....now to remember which one....thank you for the really nice 'hello'.

Welcome, Becks!

I'm not the most frequent poster here, and I certainly can't speak for the community at large, but, speaking only for myself, to address your concern of being a good "fit", I can say that I suspect given the right circumstances that you and I would get along well. I too enjoy "antiques, curiosities, good cooking" - perhaps the latter a little too much! I'm fascinated by both herbalism and divination as well, though I'm not the best at either, and have much to learn and practice. I get the sense that you have a deep connection to nature, and I also draw much inspiration from the wild and from place. On that note, it seems we both dwell in Cascadia - I live in Seattle, so not all that far away. I moved up to the Northwest from LA about 6 1/2 years ago, and it didn't take long for me to fall in love with the grey skies, perpetual rain (well, not as much this year), and the endless green that is Cascadian flora. I used to live in Olympia, right in the forest, and it was amazing to be able to walk outside my door each day and be surrounded by trees and moss and so much beauty.

I haven't played the guitar in years, and probably wouldn't know what to do with one if I picked it up now, but I play ukulele and sing a lot in an indie pop project. Your area has some great music. Once, when I was following some indie pop bands around on tour around BC (part of some fieldwork for a class I took in college), I went to a show in Nanaimo. Great music, and a beautiful town.

I don't know much about hedge witchcraft. I'd like to learn more about it. My understanding is that it draws somewhat from shamanism, which is a large influence on my practice. I look forward from learning from you!

Peace and Love,
Yex

Hi Yex, it does sound like we have some similar influences and interests! This was a really nice of you to take so much time with my introduction, and I look forward to "seeing" you around. I really appreciate it. :D
