"We were right all along."

Sometimes you can get so numb,
that you can't even feel your blood against your skin,
your pain has splintered and numbed every nerve in your body,
forcing your mind to cry out,
but your lips to stay sealed.
Why can't we just give up and lose ourselves as we once did?

We begin birth with a simple cry out to enter this world,
But people ignore the cries,
Ignore the pain,
What can you do?
Some things never change.

As a child,
We hide our faces from the world,
Scared of what is next,
Of what's to come,
And we were right,
We were right all along.

As a young adult,
We fight through the pain,
We paste these fake smiles on our faces,
Wearing a lie,
Living it,
The cries we had as an infant return,
The cries to be let go,
To be released from this torment,
Cause we were right,
We were right all along.

As an adult,
We choose our path,
Escape youth,
Shut out the cries of sorrow,
The cry out for immortality,
You go down your path with that fake face,
That smug smile,
Wishing for your lungs to cry out for you,
but your lips continue sealed,
locked forever,
so the cry out never escapes.

You marry,
The cries are gone now,
Forgotten,
You look into their eyes and somehow you can say and hear everything you need to,
Without even opening your mouth,
And just when you think it's over,
They are lost,
And you are alone,
Again,
In this prison,
Forced to wear the fake face again,
That smug smile,
The cries out have come back,
And you begin to realize,
That you were right all along,
We were right all along.

As an elder,
You have learned much,
But you miss the loss of many,
So you lay down,
Let the cries rise to the surface of your skin,
And let it cry out,
"We were right all along."

Eh, that previous post was pretty terse. It's just when I first read your poem all I could think was, nice, I'd like to read more. :D

I have no idea what your intentions were when writing this but I really
related to it (excuse the contradiction). As we get older (I find at least)
that we get full of experience but at the same time we learn to be more
and more guarded in more and more subtle ways; presenting to the world
very little of what we're actually thinking.

Basically, having more to say, but with greater reluctance to say it,
or perhaps sometimes seeing little point in saying anything. Anyways,
such on honest work really struck me as bold and made me happy.

cheers,

T. Guy.
