ivy

Many know the tale of a much hated tree
in all of its glory, though some disagree

Half-star leaves and ivory trim
To many however, it’s useless and grim.

Lashed at with metal, dragged from the ground
Crawling away without making a sound

But the beautiful creeper is a hero ever humble
shielding the structures that would otherwise crumble

Entwining its limbs around the ruins of the greats
And the eccentric abodes on the Victorian estates

It travels the world in forest and cave

And when I am gone it will nurture my grave.

Lovely tribute to the unfairly maligned evergreen climber that some love to hate. Well-metered rhyme is always a pleasure to read, in my opinion.
