Meditation and Stones/Crystals
Meditation and Stones/Crystals
Heya
For those of you who use stones or crystals to aid you in meditation:
What do you do with them? Do you grasp them in your hand? Wear them in a talisman? Or just keep them close by on your altar?

Hey Sercee,
I love your avatar name by the way. I like to make crystal "grids" and sit inside it. Linking a grid typically uses six stones. A grid is different than a "layout." Any stone that is quartz based--because quartz forms in a hexagonal pattern, the six stone grid can work wonders. You place two stones at the poles (top and bottom) and then have the other four horizontal from each other so that the formation look almost like a kite. I tried to draw it out here, but the web page reverts back to its margins. If you have any questions about this feel free to PM me.
Sitting inside a grid like this will inaugurate a great meditational space where you can really enhance the energy. Using rose quartz grids like this, for example, will bring about a serenity and inner peace of love in a way that cannot be reached by meditation alone. Naisha Ashian, the great and brilliant crystologist, posits that these grids should be formed based on the molecular structure of the crystal type. Quartz based stones all use this hexagonal style, but other types, like orthorombic formations (eg.: feldspars, like selenite, labradorite, moonstone) use a 9 point formation. (I hope i have this right). Quartz based stones include all types of quartz (amethyst, citrine, smokey, azeztulite, clear, rose, snow, phantoms etc) plus japsers, aventurines, agates and tiger eye ( i am sure there are more as well). I suggest that you try the crystal grid and see if your meditation practice is enhanced.
Other times, when I don't have time to form the grid and charge it, I will lay down and use a crystal layout on my own body via the chakras. If I do not feel like doing all that, I will, like Sobek, simply pick a stone and hold it in my receptive hand, after a good stretch, and intiate meditative practice. Stones that are exceptional for hand held meditation (in my experience) like this are: Apophylite, Celestite, Moldavite, Azeztulite, Herderite, Aquamarine, Moonstone, Dumortierite, Sodalite, Watermelon Tourmaline, Chrysocolla, Selenite, Blue Lace Agate, Amethyst, Merlinite, Amazonite, Fulgurite, Aqua Aura Quartz, Rutile, Stichtite--to name a few. I hope this will enhance your practice somewhat. Thanks for the post!

Well I tried your idea, Sobek, last night. But I think I need to do some experimentation with which stones I use. I laid down (my back hurt yesterday so sitting wasn't comfortable at all) and used amethyst on my third eye and rose quartz on my heart. I listened to a 'brook' meditation song at low volume.
I was very relaxed and managed to focus my breathing better than other times I've tried - I'm definately a step in the right direction. However, I had vivid and upsetting dreams last night. I always have vivid dreams, and sometimes they're really fun, and I can *somewhat* control my actions in my dreams. But a couple examples of what happened were: people (they reminded me of dragons, but that's not the issue) who kept trying to get into my house, a strange rainstorm across the street that started when I was speaking to someone there (a neighbor) and when I walked back to my house to get out of the rain it shifted dramatically to follow me, and I got evicted and had one day to get out. There was more but I can't remember the details, just general feelings of unease and intrusion.
Then I woke up at 3 am with a huge cramp in both legs! At least that stopped the dream
My leg still hurts...
I'll try something new today.

Hi Sobek,
Yes, I find when I use amethyst my visulisations are nearly always stronger, only when something "deep" is going off in my life amethyst doesn't always seem to kick-it (but then again all of my crystals/stones have a hard job then) lol, but more often than not it's great (for me).
I have recently purchased lapis but I have not tried meditating with it yet, I might just try tonight now you've mentioned it

I love working with crystals while meditating. I usually hold an amethyst in my hand.
My friend and I do wrap crystals though, so you can wear the crystal as a necklace, but pouches or medicine bags work great for this too. All can be used in meditation.
Quartz crystals are great too as someone else said, they are really easy to program for any purpose.

Sercee? Did you ground and center both before and after the meditation? I hate to sound like a mother hen, but it sounds like something either caught up with you in the meditation or in the stones themselves. Putting up a shield also helps. I had those kinds of problems all the time until I did the whole grounding and shielding thing.
OTOH, some people don't have to and do just fine. Go figure.
You may also want to try putting some black jade under your pillow before you sleep. I have found this to ease nightmares and other things that hastle you while you are sleeping. It seems to cover all the bases for night time protection and doesn't prevent you from dreaming/astral travel.
Some stones that work well for me in meditation: Celestite, Sugilite, and Kunsite. I have heard that clear Apophyllite is good stuff, but I've never had any luck with it.
