The Morrigan

Postby elemental_13 » Sat Jan 05, 2008 10:05 pm

I've had a dream recently involving this specific goddess. To be honest before said dream I had never even heard of her and though she was not specifically referenced in the dream by name there were a lot of clues that point in that direction, I've asked a friend of mine well versed in mythology about this. It's getting fuzzy the longer time goes by(as most of my dreams do, I have a horrible time remembering them), but it involved a book of some sort. It was extremely short for a dream, came more like in flashes to be honest not really any sequence of events. I don't want to get into too much detail.

I've looked the Morrigan up on pantheon.org and have an urge to know more about her. I suppose I could look it up but I'm lazy so bear with. I was wondering what type of ceremony would be appropriate to invoke her in/why I would have a random dream about said goddess that I have never even heard of. I don't think I really want to invoke her right now but this is intriguing to me. Any ideas?

Well...from the little I know of the Morrigan, being too lazy to do any research about her and asking others to give you the information will NOT sit well with her....I wouldn't even think about invoking her in a ritual under such circumstances.

I say this not to be a smartass or insulting, but in complete and utter seriousnes

Jeez, I already said I didn't want to invoke her. I have no need and have rarely ever done such things. I was curious. Figured someone here may know more is all and it might save me the trouble of doing an internet search. I also thought it might inspire some conversation. Forgive me...I guess I was wrong in thinking that's what these boards were for. Won't happen again.

Calmdown Elemental_13. LaFiamma speaks sensibly,as always. The Morrigan is a forceful entity, not for the faint hearted or unsure, this is what is being said for you,not to patronise you but to help you.She called to you, that is meaningful.Perhaps it means it's time for you to look hard and search for the meaning,to be diligent and try hard: she may be testing the water to see if you are for her.She works that way. There may be a need for you to do this, that will benefit you, that is not clear at the moment. None of us can say for sure, the message, whatever it may be, is for you.You do not need invocation when a Goddess calls to you.She has chosen to speak with you.She will return,in her own time of choosing.

" I was wondering what type of ceremony would be appropriate to invoke her in"

The above snip of your post, suggests you do intend to invoke her, note I said suggests,LaFiamma picked up on this point, as I did.You were not clear on that. Also, if someone tells me they want information but then announces they are too lazy to look it up themsleves, that immediately makes me disinclined to offer help/information.With all worthwhile things in life self effort is needed. There is no call for rudeness or petulance, that also tends to discourage others from conversing with you.

" I don't think I really want to invoke her right now but this is intriguing to me." Did you both seem to skip over that part? Just curious is all. Sorry to be rude. Perhaps I should have been more specific. I tend to write in a passive way and I can see how what I said may have been interpreted in such a way as an desire to invoke, not just curiosity.

For the record I have never invoked any god/goddess specifically. I have not had the desire nor do I know specifically where I stand on the issue of specific gods/esses. I usually just work with a generalized version. I've recently become intrigued by the Morrigan is all, and as I was already logged onto this site and not in pressing need of information I figured that a post could not harm anything and asking is also a form of research (at least to me). I was just fishing for info from those more experienced in the field as I admittedly have practically none. I also was not quite sure if the goddess had approached me in this manner and was also inquiring as to why this may have happened. You're post Eretik has helped me a lot in that way so thank you.

Again, I'm sorry if I've come off as a lazy b*tch.

No skipping. But sometimes curiosity/intrigue can lead us to more than we intend. You did seem uncertain.Better to be honestly warned, than given information without care or concern on the part of the giver.Hopefully a discussion will take off, yet. It's been quieter than usual, due to festivities. The folk here are considerate and will help, but you must also be willing to help yourself,in gaining knowledge/understanding.This is progressive and teaches better than just giving empirical data. It's how covens/orders work also.No instant wisdom.I'm sure you understand. I think you may have a journey to walk,with/to this Goddess, best to go prepared.I agree with you on that, certainly. I will see what I can find out that would help. Some dreamworking/meditation techniques might be good too. Back later.

Thanks again.

Hmmm...I hadn't thought of dream working but it does make sense. I'll look into that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morrigan

This is a good start.Read through it all and it would help to take note of anything you find significant or need help understanding. She is linked with the Scots Black Annis and Bean nighe [I'm not typing that in Gaelic.lol] among others. The story of Cuchulain is important in understanding her.She is very complex, like Kali or Hecate.

I don't know much about the Morrigan, but I had a similar experience with Inari and fox spirits so I went to do some research, at least look around on line, you will probably enjoy the journey and may find she is trying to tell you something.

Well...Eretik has already responded with anything else that I would have to say in response to this. Like I said, i wasn't trying to be insulting, just responding to the words you wrote.

good luck.

This Triple Goddess tends to lend herself more to the 'darker" side of magic. Her summonings should be done with GREAT respect and reserve. If you need a fierce protection or have an absolute need for aggresiveness, that would be a good time to call her to your aid.
