Three Questions. :)

Postby SugarCharmz » Tue Apr 08, 2008 1:17 am

Ok, so instead of being a nuisance and posting a bunch of different topics for these questions, i decided to just ask them all in one post! :D Pretty smart, eh? ::coolglasses::

Question One: I've heard the word everywhere on here, but i don't know what it means. The word is, "Chakra(s)". I looked up Chakras on Wikipedia, and I got that they are some sort of disks in your body but... what do they do? Why are they there? And, most of all, how do you "open" them?

Question Two: What IS the "Third Eye" and how do you open that?

Question Three: I'm a musician and i listen to a lot of music, and I'm constantly thinking of songs. They play in my head almost uncontrollably (not all the time though). When I'm trying to meditate, my mind's emptied of other things EXCEPT the last song i listened to, or the song with the catchiest tune ("Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne is a nightmare). How do i get rid of this? I was thinking about buying a CD with nature sounds (running water, birds chirping, you know). Would that work? I can always practice disciplining myself better, but it never hurts to ask for the easy way out!!

Hi Sugar,

#1
Chakras are "energy centers" along the spine that directly correspond to other parts of the Spirit and body:

The transfer of prana takes place through the seven main energy centres or chakras, which are situated along the etheric spine. They are both the transformers and the transmitters of energy for each of the etheric layers. In appearance they resemble a wheel, the Sanskrit word chakra meaning is a wheel or circle. The energies rhythmically pulsate and circulate through the core of this wheel, and resemble the petals of a flower.

In Indian philosophy the chakras are likened to lotus flowers, the number of petals given to each flower is in alignment with it's energies. These centres are never still, but the speed with which they rotate depends to some extent upon the state of health of the individual.

Muladhara: Sanskrit name means "root" or "support". The Root Chakra is concerned with physical needs and basic human survival. It has the lowest vibrational rate of all chakras resonating to the colour red, it has four petals of the lotus flower and its seed mantra is "lam". The root chakra is located at the base of the spine, between the anus and genitals. It is the seat of Kundalini.

Swadisthana: The Sanskrit name meaning "sweetness" and its associations are indeed what makes life sweet, pleasure, sexuality, nurture, movement and change. The sacral chakra leads us to basic existence to help us embrace what makes life worth living. It is orange in colour with six petals its seed mantra is "vam". This chakra vibrates from the pubic bone, between the navel and the genitals.

Manipura: The Sanskrit name meaning is "lustrous gem" It resonates to yellow like the sun and consists of ten petal, seed mantra "ram". It is situated a little above the navel. The solar plexus relates to our connection with others, but without the root charkas reliance on the tribe or the sacral chakras emphasis on relationships. Its about the power of being an individual, to be unique, while celebrating our continuing connection with all humanity and beyond.

Anahata: The Sanskrit name for the heart chakra means "sound made of two things striking" or "unstuck" describing the coexistence of body and spirit. It is located in the heart space it is green in colour, with the seed mantra "yam". This chakra is concerned with forgiveness, compassion and unconditional love. We thus begin to develop true self-acceptance.
Vishuddi: The Sanskrit name for the throat chakra means "purification". Developing the throat chakra means choosing words that bring value to communication. The colour is blue, with sixteen petals with the seed mantra "ham".
Ajna: The Sanskrit name means "to perceive" or "to know". Our physical eyes are the tools with which we perceive tangibles, while the "third eye", above and between the eyebrows offers us the ability to see and understand all things on many levels, spiritual, psychological and emotional. It is indigo in colour with two petals, and the seed mantra "OM".

Sahasrara: The Sanskrit name is meaning "thousandfold". Developing the other chakras were the stepping stones leading us toward this ultimate state of enlightenment, self-realisation, fulfilment and divine self. The crown chakra located at the crown is violet in colour, although some prefer the idea of the shinning white light it represents the thousand petalled lotus. There is no seed mantra.

Charkras - psychological & spiritual meanings

Muladhara: Mastering the root chakra helps you understand the importance of a fit, healthy body as you travel upward through higher and higher levels of consciousness. The colour represents genitals, blood, legs and muscles.

If the chakra is too open (spins too fast) the individual engages in bullying and overly materialistic self-centred behaviours. If blocked (chakra spins sluggishly or not at all) the individual is emotionally needy, low self esteem and self destructive fearful behaviour. If balanced (chakra maintains equilibrium and spins at correct vibrational speed) it demonstrates self-mastery, high physical energy, grounded healthy disposition.

Swadisthana: Represents our creative energy and is associated with the functions of our reproductive organs. The colour represents kidneys, intestines, and lower abdomen.

If too open (chakra spins too fast) the individual is emotionally unbalanced, manipulative and sexually motivated. If blocked (chakra spins sluggishly or not at all) the individual is over sensitive, self-critical and feels guilty for no reason. If balanced (chakra maintains equilibrium and sins in the correct vibrational speed) the individual is trusting, expressive, attuned to his/her own feelings and is creative.

Manipura: Represents the will and if stimulated positively will shake off fears of rejection, criticism, and standing apart from the group. It relates to the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and stomach.

If too open (chakra spins too fast) the individual will be angry, controlling, workaholic, judgemental and superior. If blocked (chakra spins sluggishly or not at all) the person is overly concerned with what others think, fearful of being alone, insecure, needs constant reassurance.
If balanced (chakra maintains equilibrium and spins at correct vibrational
speed) the individual, respects self and others, has personal power,
spontaneous, uninhibited.

Anahata: Represents mastering the heart chakra that enables us to enhance our emotional development and recognise the potency of that powerful energy we call "love". It relates to the heart, shoulders and lower lungs.

If too open (chakra spins too fast) the individual is possessive, loves
conditionally, withholds emotionally, and is overly dramatic. If blocked (chakra spins sluggishly or not at all) the individual fears rejection, loves too much, feels unworthy to receive love. Self-pitying.
If balanced (chakra maintains equilibrium and spins at correct vibrational speed) The individual is compassionate, loves unconditionally, nurturing desires spiritual experience.

Vishuddi: Represents the first of the higher centres associated with communication, self-expression and creativity through sound. Mastering the throat chakra helps us grasp the importance of purifying ourselves by honestly recognising how we feel and having the confidence to communicate these emotions to others. It relates to the throat, base of the skull, and upper lungs.

If too open (chakra spins too fast) the individual is too talkative, dogmatic, self righteous, arrogant. If blocked (chakra spins sluggishly or not at all) the individual holds back self-expression, is unreliable ,and holds inconsistent views. If balanced (chakra maintains equilibrium and spins at correct vibrational speed) the individual is a good communicator contented, finds it easy to meditate and is artistically inspired.

Ajna: is the connection with the higher functions of consciousness, the third eye chakra is a psychic tool reminding us that everything we see, smell, touch, or taste started as an inner vision or "insight". Mastering the third eye chakra will help you to keep your mind focused on related issues, including the awareness of the benefits to be gained from transcending the purely physical world and opening yourself up to intuitive insight. It represents the skeleton, eyes, and sinuses.

If too open (chakra spins too fast) the individual is highly logical, dogmatic, authoritarian and arrogant. If blocked (chakra spins sluggishly or not at all) the individual is undisciplined, fears success, tendency towards schizophrenia, sets sights too low. If balanced (chakra maintains equilibrium and spins at correct vibrational speed) the individual is charismatic, highly intuitive, not attached to material things, and may experience unusual phenomena.

Sahasrara: When we awaken the crown chakra we open to the possibilities of infinity, divine wisdom and unity. The violet colour relates to the brain, scalp, and crown of the head.

If too open (chakra spins too fast) the individual is psychotic or manic depressive, confused sexual expression, rustrated, sense of unrealised power. If blocked (chakra spins sluggishly or not at all) the individual is constantly exhausted, cannot make decisions, with no sense of belonging. If balanced (chakra maintains equilibrium and spins at correct vibrational speed) the individual has a magnetic personality, achieves "miracles" in life, is transcendent and at peace with oneself and the universe.

The third eye...in Hindu belief, represents an ability to see into other worlds, identify Spiritual beings and generally be super-cool amoung the Ganas... And a certain unnamed Kemetan practitioners summery of the "3rd eye" principle

(The following is a copy of the lyrics from the band Tool and is in no way to be taken as an endorsement by the persons operating this forum, or of it's members or the connecting server of the use of illegal substances.)

""See, I think drugs have done some *good* things for us, I really do. And if you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a Favor: go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your cd’s and burn em’. 'Cause you know what? The musicians who’ve made all that great music that’s enhanced your lives throughout the years...
Rrrrrrrrrrrrreal ------ high on drugs."
--Bill Hicks

"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."

"It's not a war on drugs, it's a war on personal freedom, it´s what it is ok?. Keep that in mind at all times. Thank you!"
-- Bill Hicks

Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

In... Out... In... Out... In... Out...

A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.

"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?"

Shroud-ing all the ground around me
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
And blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song...

"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much.
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?"

Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.

So good to see you once again.
I thought that you were hiding.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing the tail of dogma.
I opened my eye and there we were.

So good to see you once again
I thought that you were hiding from me.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing a trail of smoke and reason.

Prying open my third eye. x 10""

As for your 3rd question;

Why not concentrate on "Girlfriend" as something to be contemplated?
What do the lyrics mean to you?
What can be learned from the song?

I figure...as long as one is in concious contemplation of an event...anything can be a meditation...even a silly pop song!

well 2 first to were sufficiantly answered (too long to read through all that:P

but basicly chackra's are "portals" through which you can let your energy flow outwards (there are allot of different practises with chackra's and also explenations :P)

to the 3rd, i put on celtic music on a volume just barely audible, try that and listen to that, no hard music gentle music prefferable without any vocal's in it since that will distract as the voice pitches higher and higher.

........ wow. Thank you so much for your answers!! I don't understand the song lyrics though. "Prying open my third eye". It doesn't really explain how. Maybe I just didn't read it thoroughly. I don't know.

But thankyou thank you thank you!! The rest makes perfect sense and was very, very helpful!! :)

Sorry Sugar...it was for the shock value.

The song is basically about using "certain substances" to have what, in psychological terms is considered a "religious experience"

The only problem is that the intent behind it...and other poets who have professed such a great thing (like Timothy Leary) is that the drug itself is the religion...in other words...it's not shamanism or True 3rd Eye Meditation if the drug is the only point.

Sorry again, I like to loosen up definitions from time to time, but my divinations taught me I should reiterate my intent.

As for the Third Eye...my feelings on it are that it's a highly aware state of consciousness in which one has a superhuman comprehension of things.

What a person chooses to do with that comprehension is up to them.

"How To?" Perhaps you should jump into a Yoga Chat sometime. I say this because after studying the Vedas/Puranas, I feel that any advice I could give on the matter would sound like Westernized crap.

Hey Heka,

I just c&p'd from a Hindu site...no brilliance except knowing what to look for on g--gle.
Americans have a tendency to assimilate without understanding...like Madonna with her kabbalah fling...a coupla really great tunes, but no devotion to speak of.

Though my Hindu friends consider me Hindu, I can't speak for them...if you get me. If Pagans are really interested in 3rd Eye work or Chakras, they should really get into translations of the Vedas and the Gita.
With them, I can banter about semantics but with non-Hindus...all I would do is confuse.

I don't believe I can really dictate in this sphere.....they got some crazy wisdom of their own...that has nothing much to do with Kamat.

Let's just say I know enough to point people in the right direction...anything else is putting my own crap onto it.

Yah,

though I don't believe in the "hours of night" personally, the parallels between the Gates and the description of the journey between incarnations in Bardo Thodol (The Tibetan Book of the Dead) are fascinating.

You should be able to set your account to sent notice of replys to anything you post.

I had to change my address because I was using a server in Saudi Arabia and my replys just weren't getting through.
