Don't have one now, but always get them this time of year. Have spring allergies which I take antihistamine for, them usually get a cold on top of it and end up miserable and on antibiotics. Am looking for a way not to get one in the first place, will happily take mundane or magical suggestions.

Aaaah but the mundane is magical Kolohe.....
Firstly you want to eat the local honey now to help relieve your hay fever...it's gotta be local as it's the local plants that sets your hay fever off.It works in the same way as homeopathy, by introducing small ammounts of the thing that makes you bad the body has time to build up its own immunity.
If it's a cold you want to prevent then take a course of Echinacea Purpurea. You can get them in tablet and capsule form from all good health food shops. Take 3 a day for no longer than two weeks at a time.
Eat plenty of garlic in your food and ALWAYS drink 8 glasses of water a day.
Get plenty of fresh air and exercise, eat properly and sensibly and get plenty of sleep.
Generally looking after ourselves properly is the BEST way to ward of colds and illnesses in general.
At the VERY first sign that you are getting a cold an excellent way to ward it off is a Mustard footbath to be taken just before bedtime.
Put a teaspoonful of ordinary yellow Mustard powder (Coleman's is a famous brand in the UK) into a bucket and add water to come halfway up the lags, as hot as you can bare. Keep your feet in it for at least ten mins topping it up with piping hot water from time to time - PLEASE TAKE CARE NOT TO SCALD YOURSELF!!!
Mop your feet dry, put on thick socks and get straight into bed.

Ugh, I know how you feel. I get the same problem.
What you could do is take a Vit. C tablet before going out to a public packed area that you will be staying in for an hour or more (school, work, etc.) Take it with A LOT of water. About three-six hours later, take another Vit. C tablet (once again with a lot of water). I normally carry two Vit. C tablets with me everywhere I go just because I seem to pick up every virus out there. I suggest you take about a full glass of water per tablet (but it also depends on how much percent daily value of Vit. C it contains, the more it has, the more water you'll need to drink). Having too much vitamin in your system and not enough water to flush out the excess amount isn't good.
Hope it works!

Thanks for the suggestions. Will keep them in mind. I have an uncle and another friend who are beekeepers, so will get some honey soon and have been trying to remember multi vitamin every day. you know though, I really tried to drink a lot of water last spring and that was the sickest I ever got with it, maybe just a coincidence. I never heard of the mustard foot bath either- can you use powdered mustard like you'd find in the spice section, I never heard of the brand you mentioned in US.

Yeah - normal powdered yellow mustard.
I can't stress enough to people how important drinking water is.
If you wanna get scientific then it's because the kidneys can't function properly without enough water.
When the kidneys don't work to capacity some of their work load is dumped on to the liver - so then the liver is busy doing what the kidneys can't do and not doing what the liver should be doing - and the liver does a LOT of jobs - helping keep the blood clean and helping the body fight infections being just two of them.
So get your 8 glasses (minimum)a day...it really is important.
