I'm on at least 5 different meds for an illness I have. The prescriptions are relatively new and I have not done any spell work or ritual since being on the meds.
Will the meds prevent either my energy from within as it flows out, or will the meds not allow me to receive the energy I ask for? I am intending to do healing spells and protection spells so I want to be clear on this issue before moving ahead.

That's a huge it depends.
Depending on the type of medication, it can cause some issues with energy flow. Many times you'll be able to tell if it will cause interactions with the work you're doing based on how it reacts with your body in general.
Case in point, Benedryl makes me incredibly sleepy, and so I do everything I can to avoid taking it before I'm going to circle. Some other people talk about how unfocused their asthma medication makes them, and so they avoid taking it unless they absolutely have to for ritual, as it makes them ungrounded.
Also, depending on what you are doing, if you are attending a circle where wine or ale will be served, check to see if alcohol will have negative interactions with your medication. The same goes for different types of incenses that might be used.
My advice... see how the medicine affects your physical body, and then start slow when it comes to magickal work. If you're in a state of a lack of health, I'd advise trying to heal others. As the old saying goes: healer, heal thyself.

I would follow Juliaki's advice, just because she might have more experience in this than I do. I am just going by the fact that I take a lot of allergy medicine, and even when I'm groggy, it doesn't really affect my spiritual energy. Still, you and others might be different, so I would study up on this to learn more about it.Thanks for the replies, I'm going to start off slowly and see what changes/if any, happen to my meditation and to raising and grounding energy.
Good question! It made me think a lot.

Re: medication and witchcraft
Old topic
I have been on blood pressure & blood sugar adjusting meds for years, as well as mood altering meds. I finally accepted that they have corrective, stabilizing & restorative effects on my body & emotions & make things work like they’re supposed to; so I don’t need to fear these meds will interfere with normal craft work, meditations or psychic receptors. Prescription pain relievers & antihistamines are exceptions - they leave me blotto so I must time their use as others here have mentioned. I shouldn’t drive a car, etc.,
