mermaids o.0

For conversations and questions about hauntings and spirit visitations. This is not the place to talk about demons. In fact, this whole board isn't the place for it. A Christian site is a better place for that.

mermaids o.0

Postby AzureImpaler » Thu Oct 23, 2008 4:49 am

Ok, I couldn't find the right board to post this thread in (unless I overlooked it somewhere). Anyhoo, I was wondering who here actually believe in mythological creatures and spirits, and if so, then what?

I specifically believe in merfolk, namely the mermaid. (Of course, having a Polish father, we do have the Warsaw Mermaid. ::coolglasses::

I believe in... a lot of things. I know, it's kind of dumb... but, hey, there's no actual proof that they DON'T exsist.

Mermaids, I completely agree with you on that one. I mean, the ocean is just too vast for them to not be out there.

Selkies.
Charybdis.
Gnomes.
Centaurs.
The Pheonix.
Chupacabra.
Chimaera
Dryads.
Elementals.
Dopplegangers.
Harpies.
Gargoyles.
Griffons.
Leprechauns.
Pixies.
Banshees.
Satyrs.
Cerebus.
Elves.
Ghosts.

I'll stop now.... =/

I am too.

Most people think I'm odd. But, yeah well, can't help what you believe in.

Exactly. And I think that although technology and evolving in the physical sense is good, we should NEVER forget our origins, and don't stop believing in things simply because we're taught they don't exist.

Besides, I always followed that if we haven't seen it, it's probably because we haven't found it.

I feel the exact same way. I hate how most people tend to have the view, "If I can't see it, it doesn't exsist."

Pfft. The narow mindedness of people now a days!

I seem to have incorrectly spelled Narrow**.

Bleh. I needed to fix that. Typos make me cringe.

Well let's see...

I believe in:
-witches (lol)
-fairies
-demons (not the Christian versions)
-banshees
-vampires
-dragons (although I believe they're extinct now)
-werewolves and other shapeshifters

Probabaly tons more but my mind's a little fluffy at the moment.
In a time of war and hate, we must use our love a empathy to heal the world. Becuase that is what it needs more than anything.

Say no to hate and take care of the God and Goddess' creation.

I too am of Polish desent too. My grandfather came to Britain to escape from the war. I still have family in Warsaw although I have not met them.

I believe in a lot of things but don't see them as the "classic" images that we have been socialised into... mind you in saying that I am a witch and I do have a black cat. These days I prefer the vax to the broom

witches
goblins

The first rule in science is that nothing is absolute truth. One day I'll toss an apple to a friend and it'll just float up instead of falling, and we'll get to rewrite the laws of gravity. By this token, there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to disprove the existence of dragons and other such creatures. You just have to go and find them!

I believe in just about everything personally, but it's also fun to look at some hoaxes and such as well; like faked 'fossils' for example. Also, some of the original ideas about griffins were based on stories carried back to Europe from gold-road merchants back in the middle ages. The original ideas of griffins were based on protoceratops fossils found in the Mongolian desert. (Beaked skull, four legs, long tail, and the neck frill bones often broke off and were interpreted as wing bones.)

Fakes, mistakes, and hoaxes aside- there's a lot in this world we just don't know about yet, no matter how small we try to make it satellites and such. New species turn up every day, even very large animals yet! They have videos of 'Texas Chupacabras' (different from the Latin American kind), and biological analysis of some big foot videos has scientists believing it could never be "a guy in a suit".

Long story short, I suppose, I believe in all kinds of things and hope that we never loose the opportunity to discover something new just because our parents told us fairies and unicorns don't exist.

I agree too, I believe, in most all the things mentioned above. I do not think about the negative ones or the aspects of how they work or what they do. Most the things that I think are there, exsist and we do not see, because like mentioned if you do not believe then you probably will not see. And if you do then maybe you will be fortunate enough someday to have a meet up with one/some. This is a large world, and even larger ocean area then land area. and the oceans are more then 7 miles deep in places. that is so much more then the highest places on earth, many times more actually.

So to answer the OP question, I say more then likely there are many mermaids in our oceans.

In the Hermetic tradition mermaids are known as Undines. They are connected to the water element and have a magnetic quality. One magician who works with Undines a great deal and has chosen to write about it in public is Bill Mistele, who works out of Hawaii. Here is some of his work on Undines:

http://shell.lava.net/~pagios/undine.html

... and he has also done a book I believe, you can find it somewhere on lulu.com

In Hermetics, since the time of Paracelsus, there have been four major elemental races that magicians work with: the Undines (water) Gnomes (earth) Sylphs (air) and Salamanders (fire). These are real beings but they don't take physical form and you need astral senses to see them. They exist in their own realms which you can learn to visit.

These are not the only legendary creatures out there however. There are many other elemental beings. In a ninja lineage I worked with for a time, they have a relationship with a race called the Tengu who teach them sword skills.

There's a great book by Tanis Hellawell called 'Summer with the Leprechaun' that's a wonderful jaunt into the rich world of Irish elemental culture, and another by John Matthews called 'The Sidhe' which I plan to read next month. There are other books on the fairy races that have been written by those who visited them -- ask me for more details if you like.

As for mythical creatures, there is a wonderful encounter with a heroic astral dog in Waldo Vieira's excellent recent Astral Travel book: "Projections of the Consciousness."

I believe dragons probably still do exist but it's only a belief. I know of no-one who has actually encountered one. If I did they would be more likely to be Chinese than Western, as we Westerners haven't always treated dragons too well recently, whereas in China they have honoured them consistently.

I haven't encountered any of these beings myself, yet anyhow, but I'm reporting from reliable witnesses. :)
