I have long hair. (see my pictures ^^), and I've been job hunting, but to no avail. Many places are telling me to slice my hair, but I have to deny the job when they ask that. I just can't cut it. I mean, my hair may look good long, but I don't keep it long for looks. For me, my hair is a symbol of my self. Not "myself", but my "self". It's my self discipline, my self-control, and put bluntly, who I am. For me, keeping my hair long, serves almost as a spiritual level. Some places will let me in, but only very few. Now the few places aren't hiring.
Anyone have any advice on where I could look for a job that would be tolerant of my hair? Or any advice at all?

Ah, AzureImpaler,
Hun, your hair is not "who you really are", for that is your soul and your soul doesn't care about your hair. Your hair is your ego speaking out and nothing to be ashamed of (it's nice hair LOL).
Now, on to jobs - around here (GA), a lot of men and women work with long hair, but they must be willing to keep it back neatly(i.e. in a braid or such) and everywhere in most food businesses, you have to wear a hairnet. So saying, long hair on a man will keep you from getting hired when employers want their employees to have a certain look. SO, you have to be really exceptional in that field to get them to overlook you hair (or have the money to sue for discrimination if they employ women with long hair...).
The choice is yours as to rather or not you trim your hair or go against the excepted norm in the job arena you want into, but you have to be willing to except the consequences of that decision. We can not but advise you and then support your decision as your friends.
My personal advise - try a nice neat braid...
Good luck in your search,
RW

Well, you may not want to do the makeup bit, being a man
but the bun is a good idea. Navajo men traditional wore their long hair in a type of bun, so if you could get someone to teach you how to do that, it just might work...
Doing some quick research, I found one site that shows what it is supposed to look like but doesn't tell how to do it.

Thanks guys! Haha, I know it's the inside that is who I am, I meant it as a sort of symbol. (for a comedic reference, see Jackie Chan in Shanghai Noon - lol).
But yes, I always said if they let me keep my hair, I would either braid it in a single braid (I do from time to time), or put it up somehow to keep it secure and neat. That bun idea looks pretty good, I'll look into it and see how it works out. ^^
