Cartilage Piercing

Postby WillowWand » Mon Mar 16, 2009 2:45 pm

Okay, so I just went and got my cartilage piercing. At a local piercing parlor. I am currently using bactine to clean it and seasalt and warm water for when it gets sore. But they only seem to work temporarily and it take 2 months- 1 year to heal and because of the piercing I have to sleep on my side and its horribly uncomfortable. And not only that but my kneck and shoulders have started to hurt in the morning as well. I don't wanna take the piercing out because I spent 45$ on it. So that leaves me with a couple questions which I can't seem to find an answer too.
1. Is there anything besides bactine and seasalt mixed with warm water, that would be safe to use on my ear.
2. Is their a shampoo and conditioner that I can use that won't cause an infection?
3. How do I relieve my kneck and shoulder pain?
4. Any suggestions for proper treatment of this piercing besides the info on my care sheet?

1. Is there anything besides bactine and seasalt mixed with warm water, that would be safe to use on my ear.
-No. I'm not familiar with bactine, i've heard mixed reviews of whether it's good or bad for healing.
2. Is their a shampoo and conditioner that I can use that won't cause an infection?
-I have an industrial. I didn't get special shampoo or conditioner. As long as you don't try to wash it with it, you should be fine.
It's good to let the water run over it, from the shower head, but not directly.
3. How do I relieve my neck and shoulder pain?
-I have this problem. I just used a smaller hairband, I still have pain once in a while though.
4. Any suggestions for proper treatment of this piercing besides the info on my care sheet?
-Don't touch it, play with it, bump it etc. cartilage piercings are known for being touchy.
-Try to keep your hair away from it.
-Be careful in general.
-Clean it three times a day.
If you get hypertrophic scarring, tell me and i'll tell you how to get rid of it.
It's an extra bump of tissue around the fistula of your piercing.
