Re: Herbal Abortion
The coward believes he will live forever
If he holds back in the battle,
But in old age he shall have no peace
Though spears have spared his limbs
Cattle die, kindred die,
Every man is mortal:
But I know one thing that never dies,
The glory of the great dead
There's something to be said for being able to accept your death with dignity, and living as best you can now.

The Gods we worship write their names on our faces; be sure of that. A person will worship something, have no doubt about that. We may think our tribute is paid in secret in the dark recesses of our hearts, but it will out. That which dominates our imaginations and our thoughts will determine our lives, and our character. Therefore, it behooves us to be careful what we worship, for what we are worshipping we are becoming.

And Juniperberry, that is the meaning of life. You live, you learn, you die. But if you can die with dignity and honor, your story will be immortal.
Re: Herbal Abortion
hey! i work for the national health SW so my feelings on people wanting to live forever and dodge every health problem that comes their way is more in line with your thinking than it isn't, if you know what i mean. i would SO love to have the time to take your "rant" apart and discuss every bit
but i think someone (yes dearest) will bend my ear if i don't get my arse out of this chair! (darn!).

Re: Herbal Abortion
Just go ahead and tell him that you're busy saving the world. Once you start talking about it, he'll want to get as far away from you as possible (men aren't usually into such deep topics) and then you'll be free to tell us what you're thinking.i would SO love to have the time to take your "rant" apart and discuss every bit but i think someone (yes dearest) will bend my ear if i don't get my arse out of this chair! Thanks to artificial insemination, many people who shouldn't be propagating the human race are doing exactly that. If they were healthy enough to pass on their genes then they would have been able to conceive a child without a doctor's help. Instead of accepting the fact that Earth doesn't want one or both of those people to procreate
- ever think that if the parent's (for whatever reason - immunological or hormonal or physiological) can't conceive naturally, how many of these problems would be inherited by the children and mean they'd need IVF too! (though louise brown seems not to have had that problem though i bet her parents didn't have much of a problem compared to more recent cases!)
Then you have to consider children who are stricken with terminal illnesses. I realize it sounds harsh, but maybe there's a good reason why they are dying. Maybe the Earth knows that that child carries a genetic defect that will impact the human race or the planet negatively, so it sends a disease to terminate that child's life.
- did you know that about a third of people treated from cancer or leukaemia go on to develop a similar disorder later in life! so one in three of those children saved by really SCARY anti-cancer treatments (i know the sorts of post-chemo support they need and it scares ME!) will end up with EXACTLY the same problem AGAIN! makes you think don't it?
One of the reasons we are in a financial crisis in America and Europe is that people are living so long and we can't afford to support all the old people who need social security. There's a reason that people die. It's to make room for new humans.
I guess all this bleeding-heart, "save everyone and give them all proper medical care to let them live to be 100" crap just doesn't make sense to me. We can't save everyone.
- hmmm MY solution to medical technology allowing people to live almost for forever would be "dead man's shoes" you don't get to have a baby till some other bugger karks it! would keep the condom companies in business!
Why do people think human life is so precious? When you look at the issue from a logical point of view (as opposed to the emotional point of view that Christians love to take), you see that death is a necessary part of life. If we ever do find a way to live forever, it will mean certain destruction for the human race.
- i'm sorry but life, including human life is not so very precious, you're totally right SW! we all have to die sometime, not just WILL but HAVE TO or else we ourselves and humanity as a whole can't move forward and develop. if i had a chance to save 10 people or one bengal tiger i'm sorry people but i know what i'd be doing...

Re: Herbal Abortion
This is kinda OT but there've been a couple SF shows etc where people create or are given some method to unnturally prolong life or become immortal, it almost always ends in tears 'cause it's just not feasible. Either the species becomes immortal/long lived and goes sterile or insane amounts of overpopulation lead to enormous wars etc. It's an interesting idea.
This is what I am, here is where I remove my mask.

Kurt Vonnegut wrote a short story about that. 2BR02B. A relative had to die before a new baby could be born, and in the story the woman had twins so either the husband or the grandfather shot themselves in the head so the child could have life.
