Broadsword, you could have been describing me!lol. I stay away from the swords these days, too many kiddies in the house, I prefer staffs, anyway! I dress in black - reflects my sunny nature. I also have tattoos and a piercing or two. I go to 'gay' clubs with friends and they seem to like me ok, I have many interests, some you would not expect from'someone like me' - I love to play with stereotypes, I've been in many an amusing situation because I do the unexpected, in regard to how others think I am going to behave, once, at a party, someone thought he'd have a little fun at my expense, in public, shame he never realised that appearance is NO indicator of intellect, needless to say I turned the tables, he'll think long and hard about his snobbery in future. Hey, Enlightenment - pink and girly is what my daughters do, they rebellled against me by being' normal'. lol.I tend to meet Wiccans when I socialise, with the odd Goth witch,Satanist or Vampire[ fetishist] I 've had many interesting conversations with them. Appearance should not be used as an indicator of who you are. Look at Keith Flint of the Prodigy, for instance, well liked by his neighbours as 'quiet and gentle natured', he breeds birds as a hobby, finds it relaxing. He looks really scary in the vids.
Even though I'm a typical girlie girl I do have tattoos that people think I wouldn't have, also piercings (tongue, 3 in each ear, belly button) so I suppose I'm not that stero-typical. I also go to gay clubs with a friend of mine, she isn't Pagan (none of my friends are) but we have a blast!!! :P

Eretik, That all sound strangly familiar. My husband and I mostly use staffs or bokken since he gave me a lovely new scar. It was all my fault for not blocking properly, but he felt a bit gilty 'bout it.

Enlightenment, thought about it a bit. Have you any intrest in the arts? Lots of pagans at our local art fairs.
I like to play spot the pagan using their jewlery as a clue. One of my few girl intrests.

Luck to you

Leslie
Hey Broadsword. I'm not really into the arts, though it's not something that I'm not into (if you know what I mean) but there is something that I'm interested in which has just cropped-up in my local paper :D ~ Since I posted this (tonight in fact) I was reading through my local newspaper and saw an add for a Ghost Walk (something that has always fascinated me), this particular Ghost Walk is held in the oldest pub in England and near by to where I live, the added bonus is Pagans are running the walk :D so I'm going along with an open mind, not wearing too much pink (have been known to over do it and I don't want to scare others off) and hopefully there to meet some Pagan friends :D I'm feeling really happy at the moment and very optimistic, whether they are like me or not I'm sure our religion and faith could give us both something to talk about.

Even though no one would ever guess I'm Wiccan I do always wear my Pentacle so that can often give it away, which I don't mind as it's often only other Pagan who notice and it gets you both talking.

Ha, you want non typical? I'm Asatru. You know the "typical" asatruer? regular people, yeah, the "average joe" is the typical thing here, that or big burley viking looking guys. I am far from that. *points to ava* I have long hair, wear eyeliner and dress in all black including trenchcoat and leather gloves. So I know how you feel. But, I listen to opera music as well as Big Band and swing. I love a good sappy movie and gummi bears. You see, nobody is typical. ^.^ and you may be surprised if you try to judge people by what they are and not what they wear. Get to know them and you may be surprised.

Hey Wolf!

It's not that I judge people on what they wear it's probably the fact I think to myself I'm just not gonna fit in, know what I mean.

I also love a good sappy movie and gummie bears, I like your style lol

So you are judging you from the way you look :; Thatsa wink if it never shows up. Anyways, I have a similar prob. Plus, I am new to this kinda thing, but I am over 40, which has it's own stereo types to go with it. And I am rather large. Also, kinda tomboyish.

Enlightenment, I think that you are rarely judgemental of others, like me, I assess, but I don't assign judgement. I also think you are happy with yourself and your choices, but maybe it is hard to be open so others can get in. I don't mean to imply you are closed off. But, think of it like this, you are all happy, but maybe you want a friend. The process of getting friend can be bumpy and unpleasant even if the results are worth it. But, if you are happy then it has to be somewhat difficult to make that uncomfortable step to let other people become part of your circle of friends.
Reason is out to lunch. How may I help you?

Enlightenment,

I know about where you live 'cus I've been there. My Uncle's from the area round said pub and I visited many years ago.

Ghost walk? I'm sooooo jealous. I must confess to a sick love of stuff like Most Hunted. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

I love the Bichon Frise..they're wonderful dogs.
I know what you mean though about "typical Pagan" .
I am 46 years old and look somewhat like a Sunday school teacher...no one would guess that I am not a nice Christian lady..I am a nice Pagan lady.I live in one of the nicest neighborhoods in town and my husband is in law enforcement...I say this not to "brag"( some people would find my life boring and intollerable, so I am not boasting. Although I am very happy, I understand that not everyone would want what I have)..it's just that we are not all Goth Kids.

I guess I somewhat pride myself on not fitting neatly into any stereotype. Because I don't fit into a stereotype, I assume that other people don't either. I think I know what you're talking about, though. It seems to me that people who have a very strong need to use their appearance to advertise their affiliation with some group often (not always) tend to be intolerant of people who are different. So I can understand your fear of rejection from that standpoint. However, you probably know lots of pagans who simply don't make it obvious by their appearance. I know I have more than once been quite surprised at who I've encountered shopping in our local pagan bookstore and supply shop.

Everybody, every person, everything is a variation (unless they are clones).

I know what you're saying, Sobek, but I disagree. I think stereotypes are constructs that people have come up with because they aren't able to or don't want to look beyond the superficial. I think some people try very hard to fit into those stereotypes as a way of hiding who they really are but that doesn't mean they truly fit. I often look at those people and wonder what it is they don't want to show, but in general I'm more interested in knowing people who don't bother to categorize themselves.

exactly, you are what you are.

but i see stereotypes as common trends/attitudes and persona's within society. ofocurse there are people who are going to fit the description and there are going to be people who wont, then theres the people who dont care either way(ironically they are the ones people usually categorise)

Lucine ~ You seem to have hit the nail on the head. How have you done that lol? I do sometimes find it hard to be open to others and often close-up, only because I've been hurt in the past. I am working on it though. I think it's a big trust issue too.
I'm not gonna go out looking to make a Pagan friend. If it happens it happens, it was obviously meant to be, if not then so be it.

Thanks for that little insight into myself lol :D

Enlightenment, you sound a lot like me lol! Well, except my favorite color is Cerulean, and not pink, and I have a rat terrior! I love designer clothes, I'm def. a girly girl, but I love all rock music, especially metal, and am really into learning about Wicca. I'm a Christian who is trying to fill in the gaps in her life, ect ect. I'm very far from Goth, I'm a mixture between punk/preppy lol. So see, we're all different!!!
